About This Role:

Kansas State University is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to serve as an Assistant/Associate Professor and Director of the Drama Therapy Program. This role involves overseeing the Drama Therapy program, teaching graduate courses, supervising internships, conducting research, and contributing to the academic community through service and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

• Program Leadership: Oversee the administration and development of the Drama Therapy program, curriculum design to include pre-creative arts therapy programs for undergraduates, accreditation, and student recruitment and retention.
• Teaching: Teach a range of courses in drama therapy and related subjects at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Research: Conduct and publish original research in the field of drama therapy. Seek external funding to support research initiatives.
• Advising: Provide academic and career advising to students. Supervise student research projects and clinical internships.
• Service: Participate in departmental, college, and university committees. Engage in professional service activities at the local, national, and international levels.
• Community Engagement: Foster relationships with local and regional organizations to promote the Drama Therapy program and create opportunities for student internships and community-based projects.
• Development: Shape the future of the program. Improve connections with undergraduate programs to promote creative arts therapy principles in related fields.

The program is part of the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance and is connected to undergraduate programs in Music, Theatre, and Dance and graduate programs in Music. Service learning and internships are incorporated into courses to provide students with direct client contact experiences.

The KSU MA in Theatre with a concentration in Drama Therapy is a 53-credit program that is approved by the North American Drama Therapy Association. The program provides the requirements of training and education toward registry (RDT).

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  3 years in Drama Therapy practice or teaching.

  Registered Drama Therapist (RDT) credential, or attainable within one year.

  
  
• 
  

  Ph.D. in one of the following fields: Drama Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy, Theatre, Counseling, Social Work, Couple & Family Therapy, Psychology, or an MFA in Theatre.

  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• 
  

  Ph.D. in one of the following fields: Drama Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy, Theatre, Counseling, Social Work, Couple & Family Therapy, Psychology, or an MFA in Theatre.

  
  
• 
  

  5+ years of experience in drama therapy practice and teaching at the university level.

  
  
• 
  

  Registered Drama Therapist at the Board-Certified level (RDT-BC).

  
  
• 
  

  Experience in program administration is highly desirable.

  
  
• 
  

  Evidence of strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

  
  
• 
  

  Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds.
