Job Description

The Career Navigator will provide personalized career coaching and mentoring to individuals seeking to improve their professional and personal lives. This role involves guiding participants through career development, goal setting, and overcoming barriers to success. The ideal candidate will have the ability to form genuine relationships and possess a deep understanding of the challenges faced by individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Career Coaching and Mentoring: Provide one-on-one coaching to help participants identify career goals, develop action plans, and achieve professional growth.
  • Goal Setting and Accountability: Assist participants in setting realistic and achievable goals and provide ongoing support to ensure they stay on track.
  • Networking and Skill Development: Teach participants networking skills and other essential career development techniques.
  • Personalized Support: Offer tailored advice and support based on each participant's unique circumstances, including those with lived experiences of navigating government assistance, poverty, unsafe neighborhoods, difficulty holding a job, incarceration, etc.
  • Follow-through and Follow-up: Maintain regular contact with participants to monitor progress, provide encouragement, and adjust plans as needed.
  • Long-Term Engagement: Commit to working with participants for up to one year to ensure sustained support and development.
  • Relatable and Respectful Interaction: Build trust and rapport with participants by being relatable, respectful, and non-judgmental.
  • In-Person Meetings: Be available for in-person meetings, including home visits, if necessary, to provide comprehensive support.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other team members and community organizations to provide holistic support to participants.
  • Referrals: Identify applicable community resources relevant to participants goals, refer participants to organizations that provide those resources, and track the status of all referrals.
  • Assessments: Will collaborate with other program staff to screen program applications, assess participants' current career status, and place participants in the appropriate career track.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience in career coaching, mentoring, or a related field. Experience working with individuals facing significant barriers to employment is highly desirable.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED. Degree in social work, counseling, human resources, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to build trust and rapport, excellent organizational skills, and a genuine desire to help others succeed.
  • Characteristics: Authentic, empathetic, patient, and committed to the long-term success of participants.
  • Relatability: Ability to relate to participants' experiences and challenges. Lived experience with similar barriers is a plus.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to meet participants in person and adapt to their needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Gender and Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to work effectively with participants of different genders, races, generations and cultural backgrounds.
