Who we are looking for:

We are searching for a Category Manager, Indirect Sourcing to be based out of our corporate headquarters located in Harvey, IL or in our Dallas, TX location. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Global Commodity, this role will be responsible for applying strategic sourcing expertise and will utilize a multi-step process to manage assigned categories and suppliers.

What you will do:

The Category Manager, Indirect Sourcing will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with key suppliers to drive value, ensure quality, and optimize cost efficiencies. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent negotiation skills and the ability to foster strong collaborative partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of supply chain dynamics, exceptional communication skills, and a track record of successful supplier management. This position advises and guides the business regarding the implementation and integration of strategic sourcing philosophies and techniques to meet the needs of our internal customers.

Additional responsibilities include:



  • Maintains appropriate technical and industry knowledge for the managed categories.
  • Developing and managing relationships with key suppliers to drive value, ensure quality, and optimize cost efficiencies.
  • Supplier Management: identify, evaluate, and onboard suppliers that meet the company's standards for quality, cost, and delivery. Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key suppliers, including being the relationship owner for performance issues and regular business reviews.
  • Develop Sourcing Strategies: Formulate and implement sourcing strategies that support the company's business objectives, focusing on cost reduction, supplier innovation, and risk management.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal stakeholders, including operations, corporate and finance to ensure alignment between sourcing strategies and business needs.
  • Negotiations and Contract Management: Lead negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable terms and conditions. Manage contract development and lifecycle, ensuring compliance and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Cost Management: Identify and implement cost-savings opportunities through strategic sourcing, specification optimization or process improvements.
  • Market Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough market research and analysis to understand industry trends, market conditions, and supply chain dynamics. Use insights to make informed sourcing decisions and anticipate market changes.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor supplier performance, ensuring adherence to contractual agreements and quality standards. Address performance issues proactively.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Prepared detailed reports and presentation on sourcing activities, supplier performance, and cost savings for management team. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of sourcing activities.
  • Risk Management: Assess and mitigate risks associated with the supply chain, including disruptions, compliance issues, and financial instability of suppliers.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Execute against our supplier relationship management guidelines for supplier onboarding and ongoing management including Business Reviews and other critical supplier engagements.
  • Long Term Strategic Planning: Lead discussions with critical suppliers around long-term objectives and strategies, ongoing market trends, innovation, and technology advances.


What you'll bring:



  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Supply Chain Management
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in strategic sourcing, indirect spend management, supplier relationship management and contracts management and supplier negotiations
  • Demonstrated proficiency in negotiating enterprise-wide agreements, including contract management; balanced with the ability to develop and build rapport with suppliers.
  • Ability to analyze and recommend solutions for complex problems/challenges, including modeling of business and financial impact of proposed scenarios.
  • Ability to negotiate complex business transactions to favorable conclusions
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively with others with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to influence, motivate and persuade others, to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Project Management experience desired specifically within Strategic Sourcing.
  • Strong project management skills coupled with a proven ability to execute and deliver on commitments.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface and influence organizational leadership; presenting concepts and strategy is a must.


Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete the Atkore immersion program with 90 days.
  • Understand the role of Category Manager and link value of the position across Atkore.
  • Evaluate strategic sourcing initiatives to generate cost savings in multiple categories.
  • Assess the market and identify an active funnel of new suppliers to deliver value across Atkore.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other areas of the organization.


Within 6 months, you'll:



  • Launch a minimum of 2 new corporate savings initiatives and actively maintain a project funnel with additional category opportunities.
  • Track savings and supplier performance.


Within 12 months, you'll:



  • Deliver on cost savings goals and objectives.
  • Implement best practices across the sourcing community.
  • Conduct supplier Business Reviews
