Position Summary |
This position will plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for the children on a weekly and daily basis. The position will incorporate into these plans any suggestions or goals for the child that are developed by any outside providers (Occupational, Speech, Physical Therapists, Horizon's Child and Family Therapist, etc.).
This position is responsible for complying with policies and regulations including: meeting all regulations of the NC Division of Child Development, Early Head Start and the policies and procedures of the childcare center on a daily basis; complying with the administrative policies of the
UNC Horizons Program and the childcare center.
This position will provide supervision of and interaction with the children in care to maintain a safe, healthy and nurturing learning environment. It will contribute to the maintaining of the childcare center's physical environment by discarding any broken or dangerous items and informing supervisor of any health/safety hazards of the center's physical environment or of items that need to be replaced.
This position will be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective communication with parents. The position will offer support, advice and encouragement to the parents regarding their child's goals, accomplishments and overall well-being. Responsibilities include conducting parent/teacher conferences to review any adjustment, behavior, progress or other concerns.
Finally, this position will participate as an active and involved member of the
UNC Horizons team as well as the childcare center team. Regularly attend
UNC Horizons staff meetings, trainings, annual conference and other events. This includes attending and actively participating in all Horizons Child Development Center specific events, meetings and trainings and communicating questions and concerns regarding Horizons with other team members where appropriate and supervisors. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related childcare experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Must have the ability to provide effective verbal feedback to parents regarding daily interactions. Ability to collect/record routine information effectively in written form regarding daily interactions.
Must have the ability to provide basic physical care of children under regular supervision. Ability to report socialization and behavioral teaching needs to leadership.
Must have the ability to assist in delivering established instructional plans.
Must be able to perform routine checks to ensure facilities are free of hazards. Ability to provide preventive care, first aid, and medication as directed.
Must have ability to maintain inventory of supplies for the classroom. Ability to log daily activities as needed. Ability to attend skill development programs as required.
Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid NC Driver's License.
Must have knowledge of appropriate program rules and regulations,
NCDCDEE regulations and appropriate code of ethics. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Prefer a candidate with: Associate or BA degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development Associate (
CDA) credential, or relevant degree with Early Childhood Education coursework.
Prefer a candidate with knowledge of the population we serve. Someone who has experience planning activities, lessons and meals for children in a day care center is preferred. |
