Reporting to the Director of Radiation Oncology South Lake Union, the Photon Medical Dosimetry Manager ensures photon dosimetry staff adheres to all established practice protocols and procedures governing the effective, high quality, compassionate delivery of radiation therapy and non-diagnostic imaging services. The incumbent shall coordinate the daily treatment planning activities of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Care photon treatment locations, and will work with department leadership, radiation oncologists, partner hospital dosimetry leadership and other managers to deliver high-quality scanning/simulation services, radiation therapy treatments, introduce new technologies, minimize risk for patients and staff, improve planning efficiency, and ensure compliance with Fred Hutch, applicable partner hospital, state and federal regulations. The Photon Medical Dosimetry Manager is also responsible for developing computer generated radiation dose distributions, calculating radiation dose treatment times or monitoring unit settings to deliver prescribed radiation to a defined tumor volume as prescribed by the radiation oncologist. On a regular basis, the incumbent will conduct quality assurance reviews and conduct quality checks on equipment.



Responsibilities

    Work closely with site administrators, medical directors for all sites of practice, site leads for medical physics, medical physics treatment planning lead and medical physics clinical associate director implementing protocols, policies, and procedures for treatment planning.
  • Ensure all staff receives training at/by/through Fred Hutch Cancer propr to planning patients
  • Actively participate in Fred Hutch Cancer Center and radiation oncology committees, task forces etc. related to the quality and care of RT patients
  • Provide supervision to Photon Medical Dosimetry staff
  • Work with senior managers, patients, physicians, and center staff to ensure quality-driven, customer-oriented work flow
  • Demonstrated commitment to engaging with dieverse groups and creating inclusive environments
  • Work with Human Resources to recruit, develop and retain Photon Dosimetry staff
  • Collaborate with Director of Radiation Oncology South Lake Union and site leaders to provide development and corrective action plans as necessary
  • Monitor billing activities for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
  • Develop computerized treatment plan, calculates treatment doses and / or monitor unit setting to deliver dose to a tumor volume as prescribed by a radiation oncologist
  • Assist in the selection, planning, fabrication and quality review and approval of treatment devices to aid in beam delivery modification
  • Adhere to treatment protocol standards established by Seattle Proton Therapy Center for specific disease sites/stages/fields, and assure that documentation is thorough and captured electronically
  • Work with Fred Hutch staff to prepare for JCAHO, DOH or other survey events
  • Ensure all staff remain engaged in training and development for an inclusive team culture and capacity building for equitable care
  • Conduct regular team meetings for the dissemination of information, and role development, at least monthly
  • Ensure that all Dosimetrists hold current state licenses and other local, state, federal, industry certifications to treat patients; and are current on all CEU requirements
  • Monitors Dosimetry staffing schedule to assure fiscal compliance
  • Monitors billing charges entered by Dosimetry staff
  • Perform and create staff evaluations for Dosimetrist I, II, III positions
  • Participate and/or manage special projects and protocol participation related to Dosimetry and treatment planning


Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduate of Medical Dosimetry school or a graduate of hospital or college affiliated Medical Dosimetry school with clinical and classroom curriculum for duration of one year required.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5+ years medical dosimetry experience required.
  • Certification as a Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board
  • Extensive knowledge of modern treatment planning systems, radiation therapy systems and sub-systems
  • Extensive knowledge of simulation, imaging and treatment procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to expertly use an Oncology Information System, such as Mosaiq (IMPAC) or Aria Excellent understanding of the non-technical activities in effect in a modern radiation oncology department, i.e. treatment delivery, quality assurance, billing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work alone or as a member of a team to achieve a variety of objectives
  • Ability to adapt to an evolving and dynamic work environment
  • Ability to exercise various management techniques to respond most effectively to individual staff members, medical staff and situations
  • Provide excellent care for all patients, regardless of age, race, sexual orientation or religion
  • Extensive knowledge of medical physics is required
  • Ability to work flexible hours if needed
  • Ability to travel for educational / training purposes
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Experience with CMS XiO preferred
  • Teaching and coaching skills

Preferred:

  • 3-5 years of management experience in a radiation oncology department preferred.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $169,520 to $282,505 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
