Remote then will move to hybrid (4/1 or 3/2) in Germantown once new office opens | Mid-Atlantic region (MD/DC/VA) | Full-time, exempt About the Company Our client is a well-established global technology provider delivering satellite and space communications, wireless and terrestrial networks, and public-safety systems to commercial and government customers worldwide. The organization is investing in its next stage of growth and wants engineers who like solving real customer problems in the field and in the lab. The Opportunity You will lead the hands-on technical side of deploying and supporting satellite IP networks. That means installing and commissioning customer hubs and networks, verifying new product releases in the lab, and serving as the senior escalation point when support engineers hit problems they can't solve. You'll spend time at customer sites, in the lab, and working with product engineering and R&D to turn field findings into fixes. This role requires strong customer-facing skills and availability for on-call support when critical network issues arise. What You'll Do
- Field engineering and customer support: Provide systems engineering, integration, installation, verification, testing, and troubleshooting for satellite IP hardware and software. Travel to customer sites for hub and network installations, audits, debugging, and training.
- Escalation leadership: Act as the main technical escalation point for difficult hardware and software problems. Lead resolution of escalated customer cases and work with technical support, product engineering, and R&D to find root causes, close defects, and shape product requirements.
- Verification and release readiness: Lead lab testing of new releases, patches, and enhancements. Write test plans, acceptance procedures, and reports that confirm products meet published specifications and customer needs.
- Pre-sales and customer engagement: Contribute technical expertise to customer meetings, network design, and professional services. Partner with sales engineering and the support center to deliver solutions and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Lab operations: Run the engineering lab, including equipment inventory, hardware and software configurations, IP and rack documentation, procurement, and infrastructure, so it stays ready for engineering and customer work.
- Training and knowledge sharing: Train support teams on hardware, software, releases, upgrades, and troubleshooting methods. Keep thorough records of testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
What You Bring
- IP networking: Solid command of TCP/IP, UDP, QoS, SNMP, HTTP, and IPsec, and fluency with diagnostic tools such as Wireshark, SNMP monitors, and database query tools
- Satellite and RF: Strong knowledge of commercial earth stations and VSAT systems, including satellite modems, HPAs/BUCs, LNAs/LNBs, and RF converters, plus familiarity with C-, Ku-, and L-band systems and RF block and level diagrams
- Infrastructure: Experience with LAN/WAN equipment such as switches, routers, firewalls, VPN concentrators, and VoIP gateways, and working knowledge of Windows and Linux
- Lab and troubleshooting skills: Hands-on time with protocol and LAN/WAN analyzers, spectrum analyzers, BER test sets, satellite delay simulators, and similar network and RF equipment
- Communication: Excellent writing and speaking skills, including technical reports, procedures, training materials, presentations, and customer-facing documents, and the ability to explain complex issues to engineers, managers, and customers
- Data and analysis: Working knowledge of relational databases and queries (MS SQL, MySQL), with sharp analytical and problem-solving skills
- Collaboration and leadership: A record of building working relationships across engineering, technical support, sales, and customers, and the ability to work independently and juggle multiple priorities
- Prior experience in satellite communications, IP networking, systems engineering, or technical test environments (required); customer-facing support or field engineering experience (strongly preferred)
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, communications engineering, or a similar field
- 7-10 years of related experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience
Notes
- Department name omitted. "CEFD is an internal group name that could be searched and traced back to the employer, so it's gone.
- Salary range kept. Many states require pay ranges in postings, and candidates expect them. Confirm the client is comfortable publishing the exact figures, since a specific range is also something a competitor could search for.
- Location generalized slightly. I kept "MD/DC/VA because it affects who can apply, but if you want it less specific, "Mid-Atlantic, remote works.
- Title tweaked, not replaced. Adding "Satellite IP Networks keeps it accurate while making it differ from the client's listing. Confirm the client is fine with the changed title.
- Technical terms must stay. Protocols, bands, and test equipment can't be altered without misrepresenting the role, so run a quoted-phrase search on a few distinctive lines before posting.
- Possible overlap with the other postings. The satellite modem and RF focus is shared with the earlier roles, so people may connect them to the same employer.
