Senior Material Handler

In this role, you will report to the Territory Area Manager and will work closely with the Avantor's Advanced Laboratory Services professionals to serve our customers by performing customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Shift: Monday - Friday (first shift)

Hourly pay range: $30 - $35

What we're looking for

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a cGMP-regulated environment, preferably within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences manufacturing.
• Experience in warehousing, logistics, distribution, inventory management, or supply chain operations.
• Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
• Experience using ERP systems; Oracle experience strongly preferred.
• Experience handling temperature-sensitive and cold chain materials.
• Ability to operate forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and material handling equipment.
• Active driver's license and ability to obtain a DOT medical card.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
• Proven attention to detail and ability to follow SOP-driven processes.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3-5 years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology warehouse experience.
• Experience with drug product packaging, labeling, and serialization activities.
• Knowledge of Grade C and Grade D cleanroom operations and cleaning requirements.
• Familiarity with IATA, DOT, and Hazmat shipping regulations.
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and 5S methodologies.
• Experience supporting training, mentoring, or cross-training activities.

Avantor's Advanced Laboratory Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support. In this role you will:

Materials Management & Inventory Control

• Receive, inspect, store, and distribute materials in accordance with cGMP requirements and established procedures.
• Ensure timely receipt, stocking, picking, issuing, and shipping of materials to support manufacturing operations.
• Perform cycle counts and support inventory reconciliation activities to maintain inventory accuracy.
• Execute real-time inventory transactions and material requests using Oracle ERP.
• Investigate and communicate inventory discrepancies while supporting corrective actions.
• Stage material kits for manufacturing activities using manual requests and system-generated move orders.

GMP & Cleanroom Support

• Support the handling and sanitization of raw materials, consumables, cleaning reagents, and gowning supplies before transfer into cleanroom environments.
• Ensure required materials and PPE are available for GMP cleaning personnel prior to shift completion.
• Maintain warehouse and cleanroom storage areas in an inspection-ready and audit-ready state.
• Adhere to all SOPs, GMP requirements, and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).

Cold Chain & Shipping Operations

• Handle and store temperature-sensitive materials within controlled environments, including:
  • 2C to 8C cold rooms
  • -20C freezers
  • Liquid nitrogen (LN2) storage systems
• Coordinate LN2 dewars and operate Controlled Rate Freezers (CRF) in support of drug product storage.
• Perform cold chain packaging and shipment preparation for drug products.
• Package and ship materials in compliance with IATA, DOT, Hazmat, and applicable transportation regulations.
• Verify materials are shipped under appropriate temperature conditions and packaging requirements.

Equipment Operation & Safety

• Safely operate forklifts, electric pallet jacks, lifts, and other warehouse equipment.
• Maintain compliance with all safety procedures and warehouse operating standards.
• Remain current on DOT and hazardous material shipping regulations.

  • Provide training, coaching, supervised practice, and cross-training to qualified team members.
  • Support onboarding and development of warehouse personnel within approved training authorizations.
  • Assist with workforce planning and qualification coverage during peak manufacturing periods.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean and 5S practices.
  • Support business continuity and operational readiness planning.
