$27.72 $32.42/hourly (2026 Pay Plan)

Basic Purpose:  

Performs routine clerical and receptionist duties in support of the Steilacoom Department of Public Safety. Serves as an initial point of contact for members of the public, answers and directs telephone calls and inquiries, and provides general administrative support to Steilacoom Public Safety staff. Handles routine department records and information in accordance with established procedures and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.

Qualifications:  

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Two (2) years of administrative office experience.
• Ability to use a personal computer and common office software.
• Ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and professionally with the public and coworkers.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate judgment when handling department information.
• Must maintain sufficient ACCESS security clearance to permit unescorted availability to criminal justice information (CJI).

Preferred Qualifications:  

• Public Safety environment experience.
• Experience with records filing or document management.

Working Conditions:

Work Environment:

Work is performed primarily in an office and public-facing reception environment within a police station. The

position involves frequent interaction with members of the public, telephone communication, and prolonged

periods of computer and desk work. The work environment may involve stressful, sensitive, or emotionally charged

situations associated with a public safety setting.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to maneuver in an office environment. The employee is infrequently required to lift/move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The incumbent experiences prolonged visual exposure to a computer monitor. This position requires manual dexterity sufficient to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and a variety of office equipment. The employee must be able to give/receive/understand written/oral communication.
