Job Summary

Welds a variety of metals and alloys, including dissimilar materials | Operates welding, cutting, soldering and brazing equipment to join or repair metal components | May set up or operate welding or heattreating robots | Leads daily work activities, assigns tasks, supports training, and helps resolve production or equipment issues while ensuring safety and quality standards

    Requires specialized expertise in technical processes or procedures
  • Completes assignments and facilitates the work activities of others; may coordinate work beyond own area
  • May act as a lead, providing subject matter guidance to team members but is not a supervisor
  • Works autonomously within established procedures and practices; proposing improvements to processes and methods as needed
  • May also be in charge of leading training for employees
  • Performs manual tasks according to established procedures


Essential Functions

  • Joins, fabricates, and repairs metal parts and other weldable material to form permanent bonds by applying appropriate welding techniques.
  • Prepares the materials and set up for a welding device or robot.
  • Welds metal components and parts using specialized equipment such as gas welders and gas torches.
  • Uses electrical currents to create heat and bond metals.
  • Plans work by interpreting blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics.
  • Observes tests on welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.


Required Qualifications

  • Required education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 7-8 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred education and experience: Associate's Degree
  • Discipline/Major: Technical training preferred
  • Knowledge, skills & abilities: Technical expertise. Planning skills. Detail oriented. Manual dexterity. Welding. Inspection. Safety procedures. Reading blueprints/diagrams.
  • Team Leadership Training and Experience


Physical Requirements

  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.
  • Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
  • May be requested to work a different shift.
  • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.
  • This position is Safety-Sensitive.


Travel Requirements

No or very little travel likely.


Additional Compensation

Hired applicant may be eligible to participate in the Company's Gain Sharing Program.
