Position Summary
The Industrial Engineer III will be responsible for analyzing and optimizing processes, systems, and procedures within a high-volume distribution and operations environment. This role will lead and execute engineering projects focused on improving operational performance, reducing costs, supporting capital investments, and enhancing product and service quality.
The position will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, provide technical solutions to operational challenges, and mentor junior engineers. The ideal candidate will have strong Industrial Engineering experience, a Lean mindset, and hands-on experience supporting automated warehouse or distribution operations.
The individual will provide engineering support for automated system design and will assume ownership of post-go-live performance, driving sustained efficiency, utilization, throughput, and overall operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze operational data from SAP, BI platforms, and other business systems to identify trends, opportunities, and recommendations for improvement.
- Design and implement improvements to process flow, facility layout, material movement, and equipment utilization using Lean, Six Sigma, and other Industrial Engineering methodologies.
- Lead projects focused on improving operational processes, reducing costs, increasing productivity, and achieving performance targets.
- Define project objectives, scope, timelines, budgets, and deliverables while monitoring and communicating project progress.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and performance updates for site and senior leadership.
- Develop and implement standard work, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and engineering solutions while ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards and regulations.
- Identify capital investment opportunities and develop capital request documentation, business justifications, budgets, and prioritization recommendations.
- Lead the execution and management of approved capital projects to ensure successful delivery against established expectations.
- Develop and maintain systems for monitoring key operational metrics, including throughput, storage capacity, cycle time, utilization, productivity, and resource requirements.
- Maintain and optimize SAP configurations to maximize system capabilities and support operational efficiency.
- Partner with site leadership and operations teams to understand business challenges and develop practical, data-driven solutions.
- Provide engineering support for automated material handling and distribution systems, including post-go-live optimization and performance improvement.
- Monitor automation performance and identify opportunities to improve system utilization, reliability, throughput, and overall operational effectiveness.
- Stay current with emerging Industrial Engineering technologies, automation, robotics, ERP systems, and industry best practices, and lead the implementation of appropriate solutions.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and other team members as needed.
Must-Have Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering; Industrial Engineering highly preferred.
- 5+ years of Industrial Engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience supporting warehouse or distribution automation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience applying Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ability to work effectively with operations, engineering, technology, and leadership teams.
Nice-to-Have Requirements
- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
- Strong AutoCAD skills.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
- Experience with SAP and/or business intelligence platforms.
- Experience supporting large-scale automated distribution or material handling systems.
- Experience with capital project development, justification, and implementation.
