The Principal Cloud Platform Engineer builds and operates the foundational cloud environment that GuideWell's application teams build on as the company migrates off its existing data centers. This role owns the landing zone, multi-account structure, and Terraform module library across commercial and GovCloud partitions, including automated account vending, guardrails, and centralized logging and monitoring. The engineer defines reference architectures and self-service patterns, reviews application and integrator designs against platform standards, and represents the platform in governance forums.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Design and build the landing zone: Organizations structure, OU model, account vending, guardrails
  • Build and maintain the Terraform module library and platform CI/CD pipelines
  • Lead the platform engineering team: set technical direction, assign and review work, mentor engineers, develop skills
  • Define reference architectures and enable application teams to self-serve
  • Review designs, author ADRs, and represent the platform in governance forums
  • Set up centralized logging and configuration monitoring using CloudTrail, Config, and CloudWatch.
  • Detect and remediate configuration drift across accounts.
  • Build automated account vending using Control Tower and Account Factory for Terraform.
  • Build and maintain the Terraform module library that other teams consume, including versioning and testing.

What We Require

  • 8+ years related work experience. Experience Details: Building and operating a cloud infrastructure/platform engineering team in an AWS or Azure multi-account environment including hands-on experience with landing zone design. Hands-on Terraform skills, including reusable modules, state management, and pipeline-driven deployment.
  • 1+ year(s) leadership experience including direct supervisory experience, project team leadership, training, coaching, auditing, or providing day-to-day direction to team members
  • Related Bachelor's degree required
  • Working knowledge of cloud identity management, federation, and short-lived credential patterns.
  • Strong understanding of cloud networking fundamentals and encryption services.

What We Prefer

  • AWS Cloud Certifications

  • Azure Cloud Certifications

  • VMware exit or large data center migration experience.
  • AWS GovCloud, including partition boundaries, service parity gaps, and separate account structures.
  • Kubernetes, OpenShift, or EKS experience.
  • FedRAMP Moderate or High environments.
  • Policy as code using Open Policy Agent, Sentinel, or equivalent.
  • Healthcare, financial services, or other regulated industry experience.

General Physical Demands

  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.

  • Jobs are sedentary if traversing activities are required only occasionally.

  • This position offers a hybrid work arrangement which combines flexibility with in office engagement. Team schedules are determined based on role requirements and business needs. Travel to and from our corporate offices may be required.

Typical Annualized Offer/Hiring Range: $130,000 - $162,500

Annualized Salary Range: $130,000 - $211,300

Final pay will be determined with consideration of market competitiveness, internal equity, and the job-related knowledge, skills, training, and experience you bring.
