The University of South Carolina School of Music is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Group Piano and Piano Pedagogy. This 9-month, tenure-track, position will begin on August 16, 2027. RESPONSIBILITIES: Engage in significant professional activities, maintaining regional, national and international visibility in music research, pedagogy, and/or performance. Fulfill primary teaching duties in group piano and piano pedagogy. Coordinate the Group Piano program and direct the Center for Piano Studies. Train Graduate Teaching Assistants for these programs, advise graduate research, and supervise dissertation work. Other duties in applied piano as needed and assigned. Recruit students for undergraduate and graduate piano and piano pedagogy programs. This position will work at the Columbia campus of the University of South Carolina. QUALIFICATIONS: Earned Doctorate (or ABD) is required with priority given to applicants with specialization and graduate degrees in piano pedagogy. Primary consideration will be given to candidates with a record of successful group piano teaching and related administrative and leadership skills. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate previous experience and/or potential for innovative instruction in group piano and piano pedagogy to meet the needs of the 21st-century musician/educator. Successful candidates will be effective in working with students across degree programs.
