POSITION SUMMARY:

As a PRN Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will independently provide specialized, evidence-based respiratory care with minimal supervision at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. You will assess and treat neonatal and pediatric patients across the continuum of care while collaborating with an interprofessional team to promote safe, compassionate care and optimal patient outcomes.

This position requires advanced knowledge of cardiopulmonary pathophysiology and the ability to initiate, maintain, monitor, and discontinue respiratory care modalities in accordance with Florida licensure requirements, Johns Hopkins Health System standards, and hospital policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Assess patients' clinical conditions and respiratory needs using evidence-based practices and age-specific competencies.
  • Develop and implement individualized respiratory care plans in collaboration with the interprofessional care team.
  • Initiate, maintain, monitor, and discontinue respiratory therapies and related equipment.
  • Draw, analyze, and interpret blood gases and recommend appropriate ventilatory adjustments.
  • Operate respiratory care equipment, including ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, HFJV, HFOV, and patient transport devices.
  • Respond skillfully to life-threatening emergencies and rapidly changing clinical situations, including trauma and advanced critical-care cases.
  • Serve as a clinical and technical resource for respiratory care modalities and equipment.
  • Support staff orientation, ongoing training, and the education of students completing clinical rotations.
  • Document assessments, interventions, therapies, and patient responses accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Communicate treatment plans and outcomes effectively to patients, families, and members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Clean, reassemble, and maintain respiratory equipment according to hospital and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Participate in quality-improvement initiatives, departmental committees, workgroups, and research activities as assigned.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all privacy, infection-prevention, safety, and regulatory requirements.


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy, Respiratory Care, or a related field required.
  • Graduate of a Registered Respiratory Therapy program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
  • Minimum of two years of clinical respiratory care experience in age-specific critical care, including neonatal and pediatric intensive care, required.
  • Current Florida Respiratory Care Practitioner license required.
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association required.
  • PALS, ACLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications required where applicable based on assigned clinical area.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and respond effectively during emergencies and rapidly changing clinical situations.
  • Strong clinical judgment, organization, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records, respiratory care technology, and common Microsoft applications.


Salary Range: Minimum 41.00/hour - Maximum 41.00/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
