The Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC is seeking several part-time board certified (preferred) or board eligible Consultation-Liaison (CL) Psychiatrist to moonlight and provide clinical care for Keck Medicine of USC patients. We are seeking candidates to join a diverse and dynamic multidisciplinary team who are strongly committed to providing excellent, multiculturally competent, clinical treatment to Keck Medicine patients and training to psychiatry residents. We are seeking candidates who are reflective of our diverse adult population and who have strong clinical skills, are familiar with the duties associated with CL and Transplant Psychiatry services within the Keck Medicine of USC medical system, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, collegial, professional environment.

This is a part-time, non-exempt, clinical-educator faculty position with an academic appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and clinical service assignment in consultation-liaison psychiatry (CL) and transplant psychiatry at Keck Medicine of USC, including USC Arcadia Hospital, Keck Hospital of USC, and USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Description of CL Services at Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center

Keck Hospital of USC is a premier academic medical center located in Los Angeles, California that is renowned for treating complex medical/surgical conditions, offering cutting-edge clinical trials, and providing specialized, patient-centered care. Located on the same campus, USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center is a leading academic institution for cancer research, treatment, and prevention. It was among the first National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers. The CL service at Keck Hospital and USC Norris provides expert psychiatric consultations for patients receiving inpatient medical services at either center.

The CL service also provides outpatient transplant psychiatry services with the USC Transplant Institute and USC Norris. Transplant-related psychiatric services include comprehensive, patient-centered pre-transplant evaluation for patients in consideration for solid-organ transplantation, bone marrow transplantation, and living organ donation.

Description of CL Services at USC Arcadia Hospital

USC Arcadia Hospital is a community hospital located in Arcadia, California, serving residents of the San Gabriel Valley and surrounding areas. It offers comprehensive services including a 24-hour emergency room, designated stroke and heart attack (STEMI) centers, obstetrics, and advanced surgical services. The CL service at USC Arcadia provides expert psychiatric consultation to patients in the ER or receiving inpatient medical services.

Essential Functions:

  • Report to and work closely with the Medical Director.
  • Provide direct consultation-liaison moonlighting psychiatry services and transplant psychiatry services including psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication treatment of mental disorders for Keck Medicine patients.
  • Support medicationtreatment with brief supportive therapy and motivational interviewing when indicated, with the provider's role and expertise primarily relating to the biological treatment of patients.
  • Cover after-hours on-call service, as assigned
    • Currently there are rotating Consultation-Liaison (CL) weekend on-call duties for psychiatrists. On-call duties are assigned based on clinical needs and distributed evenly amongst psychiatrists, based on FTE.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Provide supervision of psychiatry residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Attend weekly multidisciplinaryfaculty and staffmeetings.
  • Participatein yearly merit review and performance evaluations, peer review, quality improvement activities and otherunit, departmental, and division teams and committees.
  • Attend Psychiatry Department Grand Rounds and Department Matters meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a State of California Licensed Physician and a board certified (preferred) or board eligible psychiatrist.
  • Multicultural competency in working with patients of color, patients from all economic classes, LGBTQ patients, and international patients.
  • Resilient, self-aware, and able to thrive in a fast paced, demanding environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry services.
  • Experience in Transplant Psychiatry.
  • An advanced practiceclinicianpossessingwell-developed clinical and psychopharmacological skills and the willingness to support the development of evidence-based clinical guidelines for patients.
  • Effectively works in a highly diverse and multicultural patient population and LGBTQ affirmative environment.
  • Commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice and to professional integrity.
  • Desire to continue to grow as a professional and committed to excellence and lifelong learning.
  • Additional language skills are welcome.

The part-time faculty position is non-exempt, with an hourly rate of $132.21 per hour.
