Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Writer - Community & Public Health Education

We are excited to recruit a Writer to join the Community & Public Health Education team. The Writer will play a pivotal role in supporting Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center's efforts to deliver accurate, accessible, and impactful health information to diverse audiences. This role focuses on creating, editing, and managing disease guides and other high-intent content. The Writer will collaborate with subject-matter experts, clinical leaders, marketing and communication teams, and other interest-holders to ensure the organization's health content is clear, consistent, and audience-focused.

Role Overview

Content Development and Editing

  • Write, edit, and proofread disease guides and other health-related content, ensuring adherence to plain language principles and health literacy best practices. Must be exceptionally skilled in writing and copy editing.

  • Lead the migration of existing disease guide content to an updated format, ensuring a seamless user experience.

  • Translate complex medical information into accessible, patient-centered language. Identify outdated or inaccurate content, recommend revisions, and implement updates.

  • Conduct literature reviews and research to ensure the accuracy and credibility of health information.

  • Ensure alignment with current clinical guidelines, evidence-based practices, SEO principles, and organizational priorities.

  • Uphold editorial consistency, quality, and accuracy through rigorous fact-checking and peer reviews.

  • Ensure all content aligns with the organization's style guide, brand voice, and tone.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with subject-matter experts, clinical teams, marketing and communication teams, and other interest-holders to gather input, secure approvals, and ensure content accuracy and relevance.

  • Maintain an effective feedback loop with teams to enhance content quality and ensure timely delivery of projects.

  • Partner with designers, developers, and digital teams to optimize content.

Learning and Knowledge-Sharing

  • Stay evidence-informed on industry trends, plain language guidelines, and best practices in digital health communication.

  • Share insights and resources with team members to strengthen overall content strategy and execution, participating in monthly Journal Club.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in health, medical, or science writing (clinical or patient-facing content preferred)

  • Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and fact-checking skills

  • Strong understanding of plain language principles, SEO, and health literacy standards

  • Experience translating complex medical/scientific information into accessible, patient-friendly content

  • Experience working with content management systems (CMS) (Drupal) for web publishing

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (clinicians, SMEs, marketing, digital teams)

  • Strong research skills, including conducting literature reviews and evaluating clinical accuracy

Core Skills:

  • Ability to translate complex medical information into clear, patient-centered language

  • Strong editing, proofreading, and fact-checking skills with adherence to editorial standards and style guides

  • Expertise in plain language principles, SEO, and health literacy best practices

Additional Information:

  • Location: Hybrid; 633 Third Ave, New York, NY

  • Schedule: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST, Monday - Friday. 99% remote

  • Reporting to: Associate Director, Community & Public Health Education

Pay Range: $92,700.00 - $148,400.00 FSLA Status: Exempt
