About the Position The Training Sergeant position acts in a uniformed/armed supervisory role that, under the Security Services Security Officer Manager's direct supervision, provides the Division with the development, implementation, and oversight of all Security Services Officers, Security Services Specialists, and County-wide employee training. The Training Sergeant fulfills the supervisory role of Sergeant for Security Services officers in the absence of a day or night shift Sergeant. We Require
Three years of armed security-related experience within a criminal justice system, security industry, or military police environment One year of experience in a supervisory, lead, or Field Training Officer position High school diploma or GED A combination of post-secondary education may substitute for the armed security-related experience requirement on a year-for-year basis
Other requirements
Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire Must possess or have the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire:
Concealed Weapons Permit (CCW) DPS/NRA Firearms Certification CPR/First Aid Certification Axon/Taser Certification

Post-secondary education in Security Management or a related field Five years of security, law enforcement, corrections, and/or military experience Five years of supervisory experience in security or a related field Five years as a Certified Trainer with experience in in-classroom training and development of security-related training courses Three years as a Certified Trainer in security-related disciplines: firearms, taser, baton, pepper spray, handcuffing, threat, and vulnerability assessment
Job Contributions
Develop, implement, administer, and evaluate division-wide training programs, curricula, certifications, and instructional materials in accordance with Security Services policies, regulatory requirements, and operational needs Coordinate, administer, and deliver new hire academies, onboarding programs, field training, and ongoing professional development for Security Officers and Security Specialists Develop and deliver security awareness, emergency preparedness, and safety-related training programs for County personnel to enhance organizational readiness and security awareness Provide supervision, leadership, coaching, performance management, and operational guidance to assigned security personnel while supporting workforce development and training compliance Support daily security operations by providing field supervision, filling operational assignments, supporting executive protection details, and ensuring coverage for public meetings, special events, and critical incidents Plan, coordinate, and participate in emergency response exercises, drills, preparedness initiatives, and interdepartmental training activities to enhance operational readiness Conduct security assessments, threat and vulnerability evaluations, and develop facility-specific Emergency Action Plans and related security recommendations Administer and oversee the Field Training Officer (FTO) program, review reports and documentation, and ensure compliance with training, operational, and performance standards Perform specialized administrative and program responsibilities, including staffing coordination, scheduling support, quartermaster functions, armorer responsibilities, Workday administration, and Radiation Safety Officer duties Other job duties as assigned
Working Conditions
This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration
