The Opportunity:

The Facilities Operations team within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire an Arborist I. This role serves as a skilled field technician member of the tree care team, assisting in all tree related duties under the direction of the Arborist III.

Responsibilities:


  • Provide support during tree maintenance operations, including debris removal, site cleanup, and general ground assistance.

  • Assist climbers and lift operators by handling tools, materials, and ground-level support during tree work activities.

  • Maintain campus grounds by raking, picking up litter, removing trash, and keeping outdoor areas clean and presentable.

  • Assist with basic tree care tasks such as pruning, planting, watering, and mulching under the supervision of the Arborist III.

  • Help document completed work and perform basic data entry as directed.

  • Operate basic tools and equipment, including hand tools and small power equipment, as needed for assigned tasks.

  • Support routine maintenance and inspection of equipment, including cleaning, checking fluid levels, lubricating parts, and reporting repair needs.

  • Follow all safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE) while maintaining awareness of job site hazards.

  • Assist with storm cleanup and emergency response efforts when required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned and provide support to other Facilities departments as needed.


Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and 0+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Prior experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, forestry, or arborist support work.

  • Familiarity with basic tree care practices such as pruning, planting, mulching, and watering.

  • Experience operating tree care tools and equipment in an outdoor or field environment, including chain saws, pull saws, and aerial lifts.

  • Knowledge of or exposure to workplace safety practices, including PPE use and hazard awareness.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under supervision in a team environment.

  • Experience working in a campus, park, or large property maintenance setting is a plus.

  • Basic recordkeeping or data entry experience related to work tasks or maintenance activities.

  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.


Health Assessment Required:

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

The anticipated hourly rate range for this position is $17.64 - $21.61. The final hourly rate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

The selected candidate will be required to obtain an ISA Certified Arborist credential within six months of hire. The cost of certification will be covered by the department.

Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

May be required to participate in respiratory, medical examination and training in use of respirators.
