Job Description

The Research Specialist II - Cattle Operations is responsible for the daily care, monitoring, and management of Animal Sciences research cattle. This role supports scientific studies by ensuring animal welfare, maintaining accurate records, and preparing facilities and materials for research activities. The position works closely with researchers to ensure animals are healthy, properly managed, and research-ready.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily feeding, watering, and general care for research cattle to ensure animal health and welfare.
  • Monitor cattle condition by tracking weight, behavior, and overall health; report any abnormalities or concerns promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal data, including growth, dietary intake, and health status.
  • Track feed inventory, monitor usage, and coordinate ordering of feed and supplies as needed.
  • Assist in transporting cattle safely between locations in compliance with animal handling guidelines.
  • Conduct routine inventory of animals, equipment, and supplies to ensure operational readiness.
  • Communicate with research staff regarding animal availability, health concerns, or study readiness.
  • Prepare research spaces, including pens and handling areas, and gather necessary equipment and supplies for data collection activities.
  • Support research activities by assisting with animal handling and data collection as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, safety protocols, and animal care regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support research and operational needs.
Shift

8 am - 5 pm Monday - Friday

Others days and hours may be needed

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in Animal Sciences

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $19.25 -$26.00 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
