Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Coordinator of Peer Education and housed in the Office of Active Learning, the Coordinator of Peer Learning Assistants plays a key role in coordinating and implementing the Peer Learning Assistants ( PLA) program, the largest and fastest growing peer education initiative on campus and a foundational pillar of student engagement in active learning courses with high-volume student coordination requirements. The program is a campuswide academic support initiative designed to enhance student success by integrating trained undergraduate Peer Learning Assistants into courses that utilize active learning strategies. The program supports faculty across multiple academic departments and advances UGA's active learning mission by ensuring consistent, highquality PLA support in student centered classroom environments.
This position facilitates the implementation and operations of the PLA program across its full operational lifecycle. The Coordinator leads the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and supervision of hundreds of undergraduate Peer Learning Assistants each semester, serves as the primary point of contact for faculty and student participants, and oversees a multi-layer operational system supporting large-scale implementation.
The Coordinator works closely with faculty, campus partners, and Office of Active Learning staff including the Peer Tutoring Coordinator, Academic Coaching Coordinator, and Payroll Specialist to facilitate program logistics, maintain policies and records, support program assessment, and ensure consistent communication with stakeholders across campus.
The Coordinator serves as a primary operational point of contact for students and faculty participating in the PLA program and assists in implementing program initiatives designed to strengthen a largescale, campuswide academic support program that enhances student engagement and learning in active learning environments while supporting holistic student development and promoting academic success and leadership development among undergraduate Peer Learning Assistants.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Understanding of student development theory, academic coaching, holistic student support, and student success, with demonstrated experience implementing studentfocused programs and workshops.
  • Knowledge of the unique needs of different student populations, and the ability to plan and deliver responsive programming that enhances their academic and personal success.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to coordinate logistics and execute events and programs with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and digital communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with various student populations and campus stakeholders.
  • Experience recruiting, training, and supervising student staff, including providing constructive feedback and supporting their professional development.
  • Knowledge of UGA campus systems, digital communication tools, social media platforms, and basic design or web content tools to support programming and outreach.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams in a dynamic, fastpaced environment and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Ability to use AIenabled tools that support student onboarding, training, or reective practice is preferred.

Program Coordination and Operations
Facilitate the implementation and ongoing operation of the Peer Learning Assistant ( PLA) program in alignment with program goals, policies, and priorities established by the Peer Education team leadership within the Ofce of Active Learning, to manage effective integration of PLAs across participating departments and courses.
Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the primary operational point of contact for PLA program inquiries from students, faculty, and campus partners.
  • Manage and implement core PLA program operations, including application processes for both faculty and students, while ensuring timely communication, coordination, and alignment with program goals.
  • Guide and support PLA faculty in effectively integrating Peer Learning Assistants into their courses by communicating program expectations, sharing best practices, and collaborating with campus partners to facilitate successful implementation across academic departments.
  • Maintain placement, communication, and operational systems that enable reliable, scalable integration of PLAs across disciplines and instructional contexts.
  • Manage the administration of CRLA certication processes, including tracking completion of requirements.
  • Oversee program communication and outreach efforts to promote PLA recruitment, increase program visibility, and support engagement across academic departments.
  • Maintain program documentation, resources, and operational systems to ensure consistency, efciency, and effective program delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Coordinator of Peer Education to support the integration of AIenabled tools that enhance PLA onboarding, training, and reective practice.

Personnel Coordination and Student Staff Supervision
Recruit, hire, onboard, and supervise undergraduate Peer Learning Assistants (PLAs) and Lead PLAs.
Responsibilities include:

  • Lead recruitment processes to support highvolume PLA hiring each semester, including application review and candidate communication.
  • Assist faculty partners in identifying and selecting qualied PLA candidates.
  • Provide supervision, performance assessment, and guidance to ensure effective PLA performance and program outcomes, including addressing concerns with students and faculty in coordination with program leadership.
  • Support leadership development among Lead PLAs.
  • Approve student payroll for regular PLA employees.

Training, Resources, and Pedagogical Alignment
Oversee the implementation, delivery, and continuous renement of PLA training and professional development initiatives aligned with active learning pedagogy.
Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and update PLA orientation and training materials within the learning management system (eLC).
  • Monitor completion of required PLA training components to ensure program readiness, CRLA compliance, and participation standards.
  • Deliver and support PLA workshops aligned with active learning principles beyond the required UNIV 1204 training course, including peerled and facultycollaborative learning opportunities.
  • Work with faculty and campus partners to develop resources supporting effective PLA engagement in active learning courses.
  • Collaborate with the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and faculty partners to strengthen pedagogical alignment and effective PLA implementation, including supporting PLA-related faculty workshops.

Program Assessment, Continuous Improvement, and Marketing Support
Facilitate program evaluation and assessment efforts that contribute to program improvement and effectiveness.
Responsibilities include:

  • Collect and organize program participation and outcome data to support program evaluation, reporting, future planning, CRLA compliance, and alignment with the University's strategic plan.
  • Monitor program feedback submitted by faculty and students and respond to concerns or questions.
  • Maintain systems for collecting feedback related to PLA participation and faculty experience.
  • Provide programlevel insights to the Senior Coordinator of Peer Education to inform portfoliowide assessment and continuous improvement.
  • Support social media and marketing efforts by helping promote the program and increase awareness of services and opportunities.

Coordinate the development and implementation of initiatives that align PLA participation with institutional priorities and recognition frameworks.
Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborate with the Senior Coordinator of Peer Education and campus partners to support the development of a scalable CoCurricular Learning Record (CLR) framework that recognizes PLA participation as a high-impact practice aligned with institutional competencies and prepares PLAs to be leaders in informing other students of the benets of the CLR for their world readiness.

Outreach, Strategic Support, and Unit Engagement
Engage in program outreach, cross-functional collaboration, and strategic initiatives that enhance the visibility and effectiveness of peer education programs.
Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as an Academic Coach as needed.
  • Collaborate with Peer Education staff supporting the Peer Tutoring Program and other peer education initiatives to support a coherent, integrated peer education model.
  • Participate in departmental and divisional meetings, committees, or working groups as requested.
  • Represent the PLA program at university events, including New Student Orientation and other outreach activities.
  • Engage in professional development and stay informed about emerging best practices in active learning and peer education.
  • Complete additional projects or initiatives as assigned.
