PRIMARY FUNCTION

As a Pharmacy Technician II, you will perform advanced technical duties in support of the Department of Pharmacy Services within an outpatient pharmacy setting. This role emphasizes accuracy, timeliness, and patient safety while supporting both operational and clinical initiatives.

This role includes all responsibilities of a Pharmacy Technician I. It also serves as a key resource for benefits investigation, approval requests, appeals coordination, and patient financial assistance. The technician also facilitates medication access, delivery coordination, and supports pharmacy workflow optimization.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Outpatient Pharmacy Operations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work environment
  • Accurately enter patient demographics and prescription data into the pharmacy system, including drug, dose, route, frequency, refills, quantity, and insurance information
  • Execute outpatient clinical and operational programs such as: Medication Therapy Management (MTM); Population health and disease management initiatives; Patient education and medication reconciliation; Prescription Discharge Program (Meds to Beds); Specialty Medication Patient Management Programs
  • Participate in daily huddles and share best practices; mentor Pharmacy Assistants and Technician I staff to improve performance and workflow efficiency
  • Initiate service recovery for internal and external customers by resolving operational issues and workflow barriers
  • Navigate third-party insurance plans to adjudicate claims and resolve prior authorization requirements
  • Perform benefits investigations, prior authorizations, appeals, and coordinate peer-to-peer reviews
  • Assist patients with enrollment in medication financial assistance program
  • Coordinate medication delivery and ensure timely patient access to therapy
  • Manage daily ordering, inventory control, and secure storage of pharmaceuticals and OTC products
  • Serve as liaison to wholesalers and reverse distribution vendors for inventory management
  • Support controlled substance audits and assist with internal and external compliance audits
  • Ensure adherence to DSCSA requirements for drug traceability with each shipment received
  • Execute quarterly reporting for programs such as Dispensary of Hope to ensure continued medication access for underserved populations
  • Provide coverage across outpatient pharmacy sites as needed and float between locations to support operational needs
  • Demonstrate flexibility and teamwork in achieving departmental and system-wide goals
Additional Responsibilities
  • Complete all required training, competencies, and continuing education.
  • Maintain current knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Train and orient new pharmacy staff on standard operating procedures and best practices.
  • Identify and contribute to process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Serve as a role model technician by supporting cross-coverage and adapting to workload demands across pharmacy areas.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in a health sciences field preferred
  • At least 3 years of outpatient pharmacy experience required
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification required

Hourly Pay Range: $21.03 - $31.54 This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
