Other Work/Responsibilities
Videography & Content Creation

  • Plan, script, film, and edit short, engaging videos for public outreach
  • Serve as creative director and editor for video content
  • Translate technical topics into clear, audience-friendly messaging
  • Develop content optimized for social media platforms


Outreach Material Development

  • Create brochures, infographics, and informational materials
  • Support development of a portfolio of extension outreach resources
  • Ensure materials are accessible and usable across coastal communities

Website Content Development

  • Assist in building and organizing a project webpage
  • Upload and format videos, graphics, and written content
  • Help develop a digital library of outreach resources

Collaboration

  • Work with researchers and project leads to ensure accuracy Incorporate feedback into content revisions
  • Support broader project communication goals

Minimum Experience/Education
We are seeking a creative and motivated Graduate Student Science Outreach Intern to support a coastal resilience research project focused on improving flood monitoring, community awareness, and decision-making.

This is a remote position that will necessitate outdoor field activities.

This internship is a communications and multimedia role, with an emphasis on short-form videography, storytelling, and outreach content development. The intern will serve as a video editor, director, and content creator, translating technical scientific information about water levels and flooding into engaging, accessible materials for public audiences.

A successful candidate should be comfortable with technology (software and hardware) and exhibit flexibility and willingness to learn new skills and take on new tasks.

  • Must have access to a computer or laptop.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and to collaborate with others.
  • Demonstrated interest in developing community engagement and outreach skills.
  • Creativity and ability to take conceptual ideas and creating end products.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to receive and apply feedback as part of the creative process
  • Interest in communicating science information to public audiences.
  • Excellent organizational skills.


Department Required Skills
Candidate must be an actively enrolled graduate student in good academic standing at a North Carolina college or university academic institute.

We are looking for someone with interest or familiarity in any combination of the following skills: video production, graphic design, photography, video editing, graphic design, digital fabrication, crafting, communications, and web development.
