CIVIL ENGINEER II

CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT DIIVISION

Number of Positions: 3

(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Salary: $81,636; Grade G-06

This position is open to the public and all current city employees covered under the City's Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under immediate supervision, the class performs entry level professional civil engineering work related to

the construction, maintenance and design of various infrastructure and building projects; and performs related duties as required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Review and process permit requests in IPS 11 system which allow contractors to perform construction related activities including excavating, rerouting traffic, occupying, closing, and protecting the right of way, telecom installations, and building driveways

* Review permit applications to ensure they comply with applicable criteria including CDOT Rules and Regulations, policies, and Municipal Code of Chicago * 7-28, 10-20, 10-28, etc.

* Review drawings and plans to ensure the right of way will not be adversely affected by construction

* Monitor permit fees to ensure they are applied correctly and collected in a timely manner

* Coordinate and schedule meetings of public way stakeholders including City of Chicago departments, Police, Fire, CTA, elected officials, and IDOT to plan special events and other roadway closures

* Review/process engineering, civil and structural design plans by consultants, engineering design firms and contractors for public and private construction projects

* Coordinate preparation and distribution of construction documents to utility members and city agencies for review and approval via OUC's electronic review Process (ProjectDox)

* Discuss proposed projects with contractors and engineering firms submitting plans for review and permitting

* Oversee conflict resolution between utility owners and/or city facilities

Additional duties may be required for this position.

LOCATION: 121 North LaSalle Drive, Room 905

HOURS: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a directly related field of engineering. Some positions may require a valid State of Illinois driver's license.
