Summary: Oversee Secondary Operations (Barcoding and Fabrication) personnel and production, work to maximize operator and machine utilization while ensuring safe work practices, quality products and controlled inventory. Respond to down machinery via protocol, oversee repair material and supplies needed for optimal run times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position reports directly to and will receive directions from the Superintendent-Secondary Operations.

The primary responsibility of the Secondary Operations Supervisor is to safely and efficiently perform top-quality operational duties on a daily basis which include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Ensure that operators are following policies and procedures.
  • Conduct daily shift meetings to review safety, quality and productivity.
  • Complete reports needed to track production and report on progress.
  • Ensure work instructions, quality documentation, tools and materials necessary to perform duties are provided.
  • Verify all new employees are trained properly and have completed all checklists that apply to daily operations.
  • Review all production paperwork and save in correct files.
  • Coordinate product movement between the finished goods warehouse and the production area.
  • Oversee setup techs in their daily change overs and assure LOTO and LOTO Audits are complete.
  • Complete TSO (Job Task Safety Observations) weekly.
  • Ensure safety training for all employees is 100% complete each month by the due date.
  • Manage quality complaints for the department and complete reports as needed.
  • Support implementation of Continuous Improvement Projects.
  • Plan daily operator workload to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Perform monthly safety audits and maintain 5S standards.
  • Ensure proper PPE is being worn.
  • Review/submit timecards weekly.
  • Provide necessary feedback on direct reports' performance according to procedures.
  • Communicate with other departments in a timely and professional manner.

Must be able to work 2nd Shift: Monday to Saturday, 2:45pm to 11pm, working 48 hours/week.

This is a fully onsite role. Must be able to commute daily to our Brownsville, TN plant.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Lead and direct current employees to achieve daily performance goals. Support compliance with established policies and procedures. Support training initiatives and track progress. Escalate non-conformities, failures, non-compliant behavioral problems or poor workmanship according to the policy and procedures of Westlake. Provide constructive feedback to employees and issue discipline as necessary.

Qualifications: Knowledge of a standard production environment. Knowledge of pipe fittings by fit, form and function is a plus. Must have sufficient understanding of good manufacturing practices. Ability to lead a large number of employees in daily production processes. Ability to manage inventory in and out of department.

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent. 3+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment. Mechanical aptitude required. Results driven with ability to manage change while keeping a positive environment. Proven competency in computing skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Share Point, Outlook) and ERP Systems. Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.

Language Skills: Ability to read, write and comprehend English to follow work instructions.

Mathematical Skills: Basic mathematical skills and counting ability required.

Reasoning Ability: A good memory for part numbers. Ability to sort out several problems at one time. Must be able to relate to all personnel he/she comes in contact with. Ability to get along and be able to interface with other Westlake Pipe & Fittings associates.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must be able to lift 25 pounds 3 feet high. Must be able to operate a pallet jack and remove full pallets from the secondary operations areas to the finished goods warehouse. Good hand and eye coordination for working on parts labeling. Ability to walk and/or stand for periods up to 12 hours at a time. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to: pallet jacks, knives, tape guns, barcode applicator machine, label printers, RF scanner.
