Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor of Family Medicine - Residency Program (Clinician Practitioner)

The Keck School of Medicine of USC Family Medicine Residency Program is seeking a board-certified Family Medicine physician to join our team as Core Faculty in our ACGME-accredited 6-6-6 Family Medicine Residency Program in Los Angeles, California. Established in 2021, with its inaugural class beginning in July 2021, our residency program is dedicated to training innovative family physicians who will transform primary care and advance health equity in diverse communities.

Role Highlights

Core Faculty will provide both direct and supervisory patient care in ambulatory and inpatient settings while contributing to resident education, curriculum development, and program leadership. The program is actively recruiting faculty with clinical expertise in adult hospital medicine to continue developing residency inpatient curriculum.

Responsibilities

Residency Program Responsibilities (60%)

Educational Activities (10%)

  • Didactic teaching and curriculum development
  • Resident evaluation, coaching, and feedback
  • Participation in the Clinical Competency Committee
  • Faculty development and leadership training
  • Resident advising and mentorship
  • Scholarly and academic contributions

Resident Precepting and Clinical Supervision (50%)

  • Supervise residents in Family Medicine continuity clinics at Keck Medical Center and USC Arcadia Hospital
  • Provide comprehensive primary care across the lifespan
  • Participate in General and Gynecologic Procedure Clinics
  • Supervise residents on Adult Inpatient Family Medicine services (average four weeks annually)

Clinical Responsibilities (40%)

Clinical Administrative Time (10%)

  • Support clinical operations, quality initiatives, and programmatic activities

Direct Patient Care (30%)

  • Maintain an active patient panel within Keck Medicine Family Medicine clinics
  • Deliver comprehensive, evidence-based primary care for patients of all ages

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Family Medicine residency program
  • Current board certification through the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine (AOBFM)
  • Current California medical licensure or eligibility for licensure
  • Current DEA registration with full prescriptive authority
  • Demonstrated excellence as both a clinician and educator
  • Knowledge and experience in team-based primary care models, telehealth, and electronic health record systems
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of faculty experience within an ACGME-accredited Family Medicine residency program
  • Minimum of five years of clinical experience as a practicing Family Medicine physician
  • Expertise in adult hospital medicine and resident inpatient education

Reporting Structure

Residency Program Activities

  • Reports to the Family Medicine Residency Program Director for educational activities and resident supervision

Clinical Activities

  • Reports to the Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for direct patient care responsibilities

Compensation & Benefits

The annual base salary range for this position is $240,000-$290,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market as external market and organizational considerations.
