Overview

Advanced Technologies and Laboratories (ATL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is hiring for a for a Health Physics Technician Trainee in Richland, WA.

This position will support Navarro-ATL. Navarro-ATL is located in Richland, WA and operates, manages, and maintains the 222-S Laboratory Complex for the Department of Energy. Navarro-ATL members are Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. (Oak Ridge, TN), and Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International (Gaithersburg, MD).



Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

The Health Physics Technician Trainee position prepares individuals to qualify for a Health Physics Technician role. Trainees work under the direct guidance of a qualified Health Physics Technician, (HPT) to gain the knowledge to perform the following job tasks:

    Performs radiological assessment surveys.
  • Collects air samples/smears to determine radioactivity.
  • Collects/analyzes/records data related to dosimetry.
  • Instructs and oversees personnel on Radiological Work Permits, PPE, etc.
  • Monitors time and intensity of personnel exposure.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation.
  • First aid provider and member of the Facility Emergency Response organization (FERO)

Trainees must complete required training program within six (6) months of entering the program. The program includes Health Physics Technician training, completion of the personal radiation exposure history, bioassay sample, examination. The training program covers fundamentals of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and science; systems and fundamentals of process, operations, and maintenance; reading and comprehension level sufficient to follow procedures, write permits, prepare survey maps, write reports, and prepare shipping and transfer permits.

Continued employment is contingent on meeting and maintaining the physical, psychological and security clearance requirements as established by the Department of Energy or its designated representative of the Health Physics Technician Trainee position.

Qualifications for the HPT Trainee role include the ability to work in a support role, including communicating verbal and written instructions.



Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with min. one (1) yr. high school Algebra and one (1) yr. high school physical science.

Hourly Wage Range

Starting hourly rate is $32.543
