Sustainability Coordinator

Company: Rogue Waste Inc., a Waste Connections Company
Location: One West Main, Medford, OR
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Occasional evenings, weekends, and travel required as needed
Salary: $70,000 annually (DOE)

Position Summary

Rogue Waste Inc. is seeking a Sustainability Coordinator to lead community recycling education efforts and support environmental compliance initiatives related to recycling operations. This role serves as a key connection between Rogue Waste, local communities, customers, government partners, and regulatory agencies to ensure recycling programs are clearly communicated, effectively implemented, and properly documented.

The ideal candidate is passionate about sustainability and resource recovery, enjoys working with the public, and is comfortable representing the company in a variety of community and professional settings. This position requires strong communication skills, the ability to translate complex environmental requirements into clear messaging, and a collaborative mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver recycling and sustainability education programs for:
    • Local governments
    • Schools
    • Community organizations
    • Businesses and residential customers
  • Create and maintain educational materials, presentations, and training resources related to recycling programs and best practices
  • Coordinate and lead guided tours of Rogue Waste facilities for community groups and stakeholders
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for external inquiries related to recycling programs and education
  • Collaborate with operations and management teams to ensure educational messaging aligns with facility practices and regulatory requirements
  • Track outreach activities, participation metrics, and reporting deadlines
  • Act as liaison with local governments, waste haulers, and the Oregon DEQ regarding:
    • Opportunity to Recycle reporting
    • Recycling Modernization Act requirements
  • Maintain a working understanding of public policy impacting recycling programs and customer services
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews as needed
  • Participate in industry associations, including:
    • Association of Oregon Recyclers (AOR)
    • Oregon Refuse and Recycling Association (ORRA)
  • Represent Rogue Waste Inc. professionally at community events, meetings, and public forums

Skills & Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and work collaboratively
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to plan, manage, and execute programs, events, and projects
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities
  • Proficiency with common office software and digital tools; ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Demonstrated ethical behavior and professionalism

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or a related field
  • Prior experience in sustainability, recycling, environmental education, or a related industry
  • Equivalent industry or environmental experience may be considered in place of formal education
