Overview

D460 Construction Support Integration Engineering has a Mechanical Engineering position available at our Quonset Point location. Our mechanical engineering and design group is responsible for providing on-site technical leadership for all mechanical operations at the Quonset Point facility for VIRGINIA Class construction. In this role, the candidate will proactively assist operations personnel to overcome construction problems and facilitate resolution of design issues for all mechanical work performed in Quonset Point.

Responsibilities:

    Provide engineering oversight and assistance to operations personnel
  • Evaluate shipyard issues that arise during construction and efficiently develop technically acceptable resolutions via disposition of Engineering Reports and TIR Unsats.
  • Interpret design, drawing, and specification requirements
  • Facilitate discipline specific knowledge transfer within the construction support engineering team
  • Coordinate engagement of design and engineering subject matter experts (SMEs) in the construction sequence as required
  • Answer Vendor Information Request (VIRs) for issues associated with EBQP work which has been offloaded to a vendor.
  • Perform engineering calculations for "as-built" configurations as required
  • Perform surveillances of manufacturing, inspection and testing of trade work in the Quonset Point shipyard.
  • Regularly interface and engage with trade personnel, cognizant engineering groups, management, quality assurance, QP test, planning and on-site Customer (Navy) representatives

Newly hired personnel will be assigned a mentor to assist in learning the above role and responsibilities.



Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Structural, Marine, or Ocean Engineering or Naval Architecture
  • 1-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret clearance

Preferred:

  • Experience with trouble-shooting and technical problem solving
  • Experience with mechanical design, evaluation, and/or construction
  • Experience with providing deck-plate engineering construction support
  • Experience dispositioning Engineering Reports or Change Notices
  • Experience with task or project management
  • Knowledge of VIRGINIA Class ship design and arrangement - including new design (VPM) programs
  • US Navy experience

  • Candidate must be highly motivated and able to perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a team environment.
  • This position requires physical interfacing in manufacturing shops and on submarine modules, including climbing and accessing confined spaces.
