Position Overview
| Primary Purpose of Position |
The Plumbing Supervisor (Advanced) provides expert-level oversight, leadership, and technical direction for campus plumbing operations at North Carolina A&T State University. This position serves as the
subject matter expert for plumbing systems in a complex institutional environment and exercises
independent judgment in planning, supervising, and executing work affecting life safety, public health, regulatory compliance, and continuity of campus operations.
The role supervises assigned plumbing staff, coordinates with other trades and contractors, and ensures compliance with the North Carolina Plumbing Code,
OSHA regulations, and university standards.
This advanced level position exercises oversight of safety enforcement and decision-making impact on critical campus infrastructure and emergency response. The Plumbing Supervisor is also responsibility for training, performance management, and work prioritization.
Knowledge
- Expert knowledge of institutional plumbing systems, materials, methods, and codes.
- Advanced understanding of safety regulations, cross-connection control, and backflow prevention.

| Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Physical Plant is responsible for providing services relative to building and grounds maintenance, utilities, transportation, trash removal, central receiving, recycling, disposition of surplus property and moving and hauling. In addition, the Physical Plant has expanding responsibilities that includes providing support services for the instruction and research programs to achieve the University's mission, goals and objectives. Maintains and improves and expands all campus buildings, campus image and education opportunities for all people. More specifically, the functions involve energy conservation, building renovation/repair, occupational safety and health, landscape design, event planning, vehicle and equipment maintenance/repair, motor pool and housekeeping services to 15 residence halls, 40 academic buildings, 15 research buildings, 21 support buildings and 19 university farm buildings; campus lighting, water and sewer, and electrical distribution system. Moreover, the Skilled Trades Department, inclusive of the Plumbing unit, is responsible for repair, maintenance and preventive maintenance of campus facilities. |
