Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for ordering supplies for all Laboratory sections, for monitoring inventory levels to ensure that reagents and supplies are adequate for the volume of tests performed, for ordering stock and office supplies, and maintaining and renewing standing orders. This position summary contains the most relevant duties and responsibilities and does not exclude other assignments not mentioned.

Communicates with and assists STHS laboratory section leaders to maintain efficiency and ensures section supply PAR levels are maintained. Must maintain cleanliness of and restocking of laboratory stock area(s). Daily performs routine data entry, supply distribution and clerical support tasks that require previous knowledge of department or hospital procedures. Examples of work performed might include receiving supplies, rotating stock, setting up new supply items with PMM number, data entry, responding promptly to telephone or e-mail requests, stocking supplies, keeping track of order dates and maintaining and renewing standing orders for the system laboratories and affiliated labs, ordering office supplies, maintaining files and records of orders and packing slips, interpreting data, resolving routine suppy problems, or answering questions. Under supervision, performs a variety of manual tasks related to the management of laboratory supply inventories and distribution of supplies for all STHS laboratories, Out-Patient drawing stations, affiliated labs and clinics, and laboratory storage areas. Uses a personal computer and applicable software. Manages inventory of laboratory supplies, single-use laboratory materials, devices, and related products. Maintains records, replenishes stock, and plans for future use requirements based on routine orders and seasonal workload patterns and forecasts. May perform receiving, stocking, distributing, and packing in addition to inventory control. Responsible for tracking, receiving and mailing CAP proficiency testing program surveys. May be asked to assist in preparing check requests and submit for signature and approval. On occasion it may be necessary to work weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, overtime, and/or on an on-call status. May operate a company motor vehicle to conduct related tasks on an occasional basis.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. At least two years previous experience.

2. A valid Texas Driver's License; safe driving skills; the ability to safely operate company vehicles with manual or automatic transmissions.

3. Familiar with basic inventory control standards, record keeping, and documentation requirements.

4. Fundamental knowledge of aseptic technique and/or HACCP certification.

5. Typical incumbent has 9-12 months relevant experience working with medical/surgical supplies and equipment.

6. Typical incumbent has basic knowledge of Universal Precautions and Aseptic Technique.

7. Ability to work independently (self-starter), quickly, accurately and efficiently under tight deadlines, heavy workloads and in the presence of customers while producing desired results.

8. Experience medical supply preferred.

9. Math and analytical skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide to count inventory, perform measurements, and calculate total work order times.

10. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

EDUCATION / LICENSURE:

o High School diploma, GED, or Higher Education required.

o Basic computer skills preferred
