About the Job

Job Duties:

  • Watering, planting, & weeding of garden beds
  • Maintain annuals, perennials, and vegetable garden beds
  • Harvests crops, including sorting and cleaning produce
  • Operate lawn care equipment for mowing and sidewalk clearing
  • Scan for safety hazards and other possible safety/security risks on the grounds
  • Trash pickup/removal and similar tasks required to keep the grounds neat and clean
  • Keep records of information as needed
  • Interact with visitors to Glensheen's grounds
  • Basic first aid and first report of injury documentation
  • Demonstrate safe behaviors to others and take action to always put safety first
  • Maintain a clean and organized work space, including shed, gardener's cottage work room & patio area and other storage areas
  • Maintain and safely operate lawn & garden equipment
  • Demonstrate courteous and respectful behavior to all guests, coworkers, volunteers and members of the Glensheen
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable interacting with a diverse group of people
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds with or without accommodations
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel and be in motion for lengthy periods of time
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
  • Comfortable with manual labor

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with gardening, lawn care, or grounds maintenance, preferred, but not required
About the Department

Glensheen is the most visited house museum in Minnesota. In addition to the 39-room mansion, the estate includes a carriage house, gardener's cottage, boathouse, and 12 acres on the shores of Lake Superior. Glensheen is considered one of the most complete house museum collections in the country. Tours are offered year-round. Glensheen's event space is available for weddings, corporate gatherings, etc. Signature events are also offered throughout the year.

Glensheen is a museum property of the University of Minnesota and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Glensheen is located at 3300 London Road, Duluth, MN.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $15.25 - $15.50 per hour depending on education/qualifications/experience.
