The Sophisticated Systems Project Engineer owns the execution of cryogenic and industrial gas delivery system projects from proposal development through installation, startup, and commissioning at customer sites. This role is accountable for defining the project engineering scope and ensuring systems are developed, installed, commissioned, and handed over safely, compliantly, on schedule, and within approved cost.

Projects involve sophisticated systems incorporating compression equipment, cryogenic pumps, power and control systems, highthroughput storage, vaporization, and pressure control. These solutions support diverse industries, including petrochemical and refining, general manufacturing, fueling infrastructure, aerospace, and power generation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with Commercial teams during the proposal phase to define technical scope, system configuration, and budgetary estimates.
  • Participate in customer meetings and sales discussions to clearly communicate system capabilities, limitations, and execution approach.
  • Ensure alignment between commercial commitments, technical scope, and customer expectations.
Project Execution & Commissioning
  • Lead and support system installation, startup, and commissioning activities at customer sites.
  • Coordinate with Operations, field resources, vendors, and customer personnel to ensure systems perform as intended and meet contractual requirements.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues during execution to minimize risk, rework, and schedule impact.
CrossFunctional Teamwork & Lifecycle Support
  • Serve as a technical interface with customers and internal partners, including Customer Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and Product Engineering.
  • Provide ongoing engineering support to field maintenance teams for installed Sophisticated Systems.
  • Support Product Engineering through application of standard develop, technical coordination, and feedback from project execution to drive continuous improvement.
Dimensions & Impact
  • Supports execution and lifecycle performance of a substantial installed base of sophisticated systems, including compression, cryogenic pumping, storage, vaporization, and control equipment deployed across a broad range of customer applications.
Technical Complexity
  • Requires broad, indepth knowledge of mechanical, process, electrical, and control system integration for cryogenic and industrial gas supply systems in sophisticated customer environments.
Financial Impact
  • Directly influences project capital cost, execution efficiency, and lifecycle performance through sound engineering decisions during proposal development, execution, startup, and commissioning.
  • Opportunities to drive cost optimization, reduce rework, and improve project outcomes through standardized practices and engineering judgment.
Customer & Commercial Impact
  • Frequent interaction with external customers and internal Commercial teams, directly impacting technical transparency, execution risk, and overall customer satisfaction.
Travel
  • Approximately 10-20% travel within North America to support site evaluations, execution activities, startup, commissioning, and technical support.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering team.
  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in project engineering, systems engineering, or execution support for sophisticated mechanical or process systems.
  • Handson experience with engineered systems involving compression equipment, cryogenic equipment, fastpaced systems, process piping, or rotating machinery.
  • Solid understanding of project engineering fundamentals, including scope definition, execution planning, cost estimating support, and crossdiscipline coordination.
  • Proven experience supporting proposal development, including technical scope definition, budgetary estimates, and customer or sales engagement.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical information clearly to commercial teams and customer technical representatives.
  • Experience supporting installation, startup, commissioning, or field solving of engineered systems.
  • Familiarity with NFPA codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to industrial gas, cryogenic, or fast paced systems.
  • Proven dedication to safety, regulatory compliance, and ethical engineering practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to prioritize.
  • Selfmotivated and capable of working independently within a collaborative, crossfunctional environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 10-20% within North America.
