HJF is seeking a Sr. Network Engineer who serves as Tier/Level 3 technical advisor to the Division Chief, Network Operations USU, and the NOC technical staff for Local Area Network (LAN) architectures, topologies, and network operating systems. The incumbent is the agency expert in Local Area Networks with specific emphasis on Cisco LAN. The Incumbent serves under the direction of the Director, Network Operations and Communications (NOC).

U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.

This position is located in the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Office of the Senior Vice President for the University, Office of the Vice President for Information and Education Technology, Network Operations and Communications (NOC) Directorate, Systems Support Division, Network Operations USU.

  • Administer, maintain, and monitor enterprise network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
  • Configure and manage Cisco Catalyst Center (DNA Center) for network automation, assurance, inventory management, and software image control.
  • Administer Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) for network access control, endpoint compliance, authentication, and authorization policies.
  • Implement and maintain 802.1X authentication, guest access, and device profiling using Cisco ISE.
  • Monitor network performance, bandwidth utilization, and system health using network management and monitoring tools.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity, latency, routing, switching, and authentication issues across LAN, WAN, and wireless environments.
  • Perform firmware and software upgrades on network devices and ensure configuration backups are maintained.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce network security policies, including VLAN segmentation, ACLs, and firewall rules.
  • Maintain IP address management, DNS, and DHCP services.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with organizational security standards and vulnerability remediation.
  • Document network diagrams, configurations, standard operating procedures, and change management records.
  • Provide Tier II / Tier III technical support and escalation assistance to USU Service Desk and NOC teams.
  • Conduct network capacity planning and recommend hardware or architecture improvements.
  • Support disaster recovery planning and business continuity operations related to network infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers for equipment procurement, support contracts, and incident resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational, regulatory, and DoD IT policies and standards where applicable.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS, or a similar field with similar exposure to IT concepts and practices.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 4-6 years of strong networking experience and responsibilities in a Cisco networking environment.
  • Strong experience in routing, switching, firewall, VPN and security appliance technologies and management with Cisco technologies. Sound understanding of generally accepted IT networking audit procedures and standards.
  • Ability to relate business requirements to technology implementation of network hardware/software.
  • Ability to work with various levels of users to resolve business and systems issues in a timely manner.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as strong analytical and problem solving skills. Team-oriented interpersonal skills.
  • May require U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3 Secret Clearance.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to sit or stand at a computer for extended periods.

Licenses and Certifications

  • CCNA certification must be completed within first year of employment.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent preferred.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
  • Duties may require occasional evening and/or weekend work.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $93,100-$140,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
