Overview

Carle Health is seeking a Chief Medical Physicist - Radiation Oncology to serve as the senior clinical physics leader with system-wide oversight of medical physics services, ensuring the safe, effective, and compliant use of radiation in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients across Carle Health Radiation Oncology sites in Urbana, Normal, and Peoria, Illinois.


Opportunity Details

  • System-wide leadership of medical physics services across three Radiation Oncology sites
  • Primary location in Urbana, Illinois, with travel to Normal and Peoria approximately twice per month
  • Oversight of all clinical medical physics functions, including:
    • External beam radiation therapy
    • Stereotactic treatments
    • Simulation, treatment planning, and image guidance
  • Ensures accuracy and consistency of dose calculation, treatment planning, and chart review
  • Leads acceptance testing, commissioning, and implementation of new equipment and technologies
  • Clinical authority for complex and high-risk physics decisions
  • Directs quality assurance and quality management programs across all sites
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations and accreditation standards (IEMA, NRC, CMS, ASTRO/ACR, CoC)
  • Oversees regulatory readiness, audits, and radiation safety programs
  • Manages and mentors medical physicists and dosimetrists
  • Participates in recruitment, onboarding, evaluations, and staffing planning
  • Collaborates with physicians, therapists, and oncology leadership on clinical operations and strategic planning
  • Supports research and clinical trials requiring medical physics involvement
  • Reports to the Medical Director of Radiation Oncology and Cancer Institute leadership
  • Includes people management and budget responsibility

Qualifications/Education

Education

  • Master's degree in Physics required
  • Doctorate preferred

Certification & Licensure

  • Registered Therapeutic Radiation Physicist - Illinois Emergency Management Agency
  • ABR Certified in Therapeutic Medical Physics

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years in radiation oncology physics
  • At least 5 years of experience post-board certification
  • Prior leadership experience preferred
  • Multi-site or system-level experience preferred
  • Academic or integrated health system experience preferred

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $118.06 - $203.05/hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
