Medical Assistant Earn While You Learn Training Program

MaineHealth, in partnership with York County Community College, is proud to offer a Medical Assistant Earn While You Learn Training Program designed for individuals ready to begin a meaningful career in healthcare.

This 16week, fulltime (40 hours/week), paid ($19.87/hour), and benefiteligible program combines classroom instruction, handson lab learning, and supervised clinical experience within a MaineHealth practice to prepare participants for success as a Medical Assistant.

Program highlights include:

  • Handson clinical skills and direct patient care
  • Medical terminology, documentation, and clinical workflow
  • Professional practice as part of a MaineHealth care team

The curriculum is intentionally designed to prepare participants to sit for the Medical Assistant certification exam, positioning graduates for a successful transition into Medical Assistant roles within MaineHealth.

Schedule:

  • Mondays & Wednesdays (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.): Inperson classes at the YCCC campus in Wells, ME
  • Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.): Work in clinical support role at a MaineHealth outpatient practice.

Summary:
The Clinical Team Assistant - Entry role is responsible for performing daily patient service functions to support the clinical team in the delivery of patient care. This role functions under the license of a provider when performing clinical and other patient care responsibilities.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: High School Diploma preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: Current BLS certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date.
  3. Experience: Previous experience in a medical office or outpatient hospital setting preferred.
  4. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: This role will participate and complete an established training program approved by MaineHealth with the expectation of obtaining certification and transitioning to a Medical Assistant position within one year of eligibility.
