Maintenance Building Technician

What is the role about?

This role is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation, safety, and upkeep of production equipment and facility infrastructure by performing a wide range of hands-on maintenance activities. The position involves installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and servicing production machinery and instrumentation, responding to urgent production issues, and executing preventative maintenance and inspections to minimize downtime. It also includes supporting basic machinist and mechanical repair work, maintaining building systems and general facilities, managing tools and spare parts inventory, and coordinating and overseeing external service vendors. Working closely with Manufacturing Engineers and the Safety Committee, the role contributes to workstation improvements, ergonomics, lean maintenance practices, and EHS compliance, while maintaining accurate maintenance records, supporting continuous improvement efforts, and ensuring a clean, safe, and well-organized work environment.

Which tasks will you perform?

You will:

  • Perform diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, and maintain production machines and facility equipment.
  • Respond to emergency repair needs during production and conduct scheduled maintenance during machine service windows.
  • Execute basic machinist tasks and support mechanical repairs.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of facility infrastructure, including restrooms, lighting, and general building upkeep.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, spare parts, and maintenance supplies; ensure stock levels are adequate and organized.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Committee to uphold EHS standards and promote a safe workplace.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineers to enhance workstations, ergonomics, and facility layout.
  • Conduct preventative inspections and maintenance per PM schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including device history and change requests.
  • Diagnose, repair, install, and service various types of production equipment and instrumentation.
  • Coordinate service calls with external vendors (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.) and supervise on-site work.
  • Review contractor quotes for accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities to improve PM procedures and spare parts inventory control.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles to maintenance tasks.
  • Occasional operation of forklifts, in accordance with all safety guidelines and training requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain clean, organized work areas.
  • Hazardous waste handling.

What do we expect from you?

You:

  • Working knowledge of Material Traceability requirements.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in general facilities maintenance (carpentry, plumbing, electrical).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand/power tools.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to contribute to effective solutions.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagnostic tools, and meters.
  • Basic computer literacy, including ability to use maintenance software and email.
  • Fluent in English, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal and people skills; able to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
  • Forklift Certification preferred
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or additional hours as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to maximum 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods during inspections.

The listed salary range for this position is $20 to $30 per hour, but the actual package offered may vary depending on different factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation for this position would include other elements which include an annual nondiscretionary bonus.
