Overview
We are seeking a Journeyman Carpenter with Minimum of 3 years experience on Civil Structure Projects. This position performs skilled carpentry work on heavy civil and infrastructure projects, including bridges, highways, tunnels, and utility structures. This role specializes in building and installing complex formwork systems, and structural components used in concrete construction, while ensuring compliance with engineering specifications, safety regulations, and project timelines. Responsibilities
Read and interpret structural drawings, formwork plans, and civil engineering specifications
- Construct, install, and dismantle concrete formwork for bridges, piers, abutments, retaining walls, and culverts
- Build and maintain falsework, shoring, and scaffolding systems
- Work with gang forms, panel systems, and custom-built formwork
- Assist with concrete pours, ensuring forms are properly aligned and braced
- Set elevations, grades, and alignments using levels, lasers, and surveying tools
- Install heavy timber, steel forms, and prefabricated systems
- Collaborate with ironworkers, laborers, equipment operators, and engineers
- Inspect formwork and structures for accuracy, stability, and code compliance
- Follow strict safety procedures, especially for heights, rigging, and confined spaces
- Mentor apprentices and support crew productivity
- Required Skills & Qualifications
- Completion of a carpentry apprenticeship or equivalent experience in heavy civil construction
- Strong experience with concrete formwork and structural systems
- Ability to read complex infrastructure drawings and layout plans
- Proficiency with carpentry tools, layout instruments, and forming systems
- Knowledge of load-bearing principles, bracing, and structural integrity
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting and working at heights
- Strong teamwork and communication skills

- Complete all required safety training as scheduled and participate in all project TBT and safety meetings.
- Review SDS information as needed.
- Primary duties include erecting and dismantling forms for road/highway structures safely using hand tools and power tools.
- Set and tie steel as required for highway structures and general flat work.
- Assist masons pouring and finishing concrete structures, curbs and gutters.
- Effectively and safely operate cutting tools and concrete vibrators.
- Load, unload and carry equipment, tools and materials.
- Read and understand project plans and maintain grade stakes and other survey markings.
- Perform lay-out using transit and laser level.
- Perform maintenance and upkeep of equipment and tools.
- Safely participate in rigging activities providing flagging and directions to crane operators.
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety programs and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
