LEO Access Support Specialist

UVA Library is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated candidate for the position of LEO Access Support Specialist to join UVA Library's well-recognized LEO (Library Express On-Grounds) and Scanning Services team. The LEO Access Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining the daily operations of Library Express On-Grounds (LEO) services, including delivering requested Library materials to Library branches and academic departments throughout the UVA community. This includes transporting library collections between libraries as returns, hold shelf items, or new acquisitions being sent to their home locations, as well as assisting with the transfer of collections designated for bindery or relocation. The position requires processing all Library materials using computer and software applications. In a secondary capacity, the LEO Access Support Specialist provides backup support for Instructional Scanning services, which includes retrieving requested materials from the stacks, scanning from source materials, and remediating scanned PDFs to ensure they meet digital accessibility standards.

Responsibilities

• Retrieves requested Library materials from Shannon and Clemons Libraries and processes all materials for LEO delivery using computer and software applications.
• Transfers Library materials between libraries - including returns, hold shelf items, new acquisitions, bindery shipments, and collection relocations - loading, unloading, and operating the LEO van in accordance with all safety and efficiency guidelines established by UVA.
• Exhibits safe driving practices, adhering to speed limits and all other state laws and regulations for motor vehicles.
• Maintains a turnaround time of two working days for most LEO deliveries to faculty and graduate departments, Library branches, and Ivy Stacks.
• Collaborates with University and Library colleagues to ensure smooth operations, and keeps the LEO Supervisor informed on issues, changes, and other important information concerning academic departments and Libraries.
• Troubleshoots and reports technical issues or other problems to LEO Supervisor.
• Provides backup support for Instructional Scanning services, including scanning from source materials using available equipment and following established best practices for producing high-quality scans.
• Uses computer and software applications to remediate scanned PDFs, ensuring they meet digital accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2 compliance).
• Supports and collaborates with Interlibrary Services (ILS) and assists with academic department delivery issues, retrieval issues at Library branches, and other departmental needs as directed by the Supervisor.
• Performs regular cleaning of the delivery vehicle and other equipment, and establishes and completes yearly goals and objectives that align with Access Services.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma
• Experience: At least one year of customer service experience.
• Licensure: Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

• Priordelivery driverexperience.
• Able to learn and navigate established routes on UVA grounds and the surrounding community that are used to drive or walk LEO deliveries.
• Experience working or volunteering in a Library or museum environment.
• Familiar with software such as Microsoft (MS) 365, MS Outlook, MS Word, MSExcel.
• Experience with scanning equipment, including flatbed and overhead scanners.
• A familiarity with the various file formats used in digitizing and transmission of text and images (e.g., TIFF, PDF, JPEG).
• Familiarity with digital accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1compliance and PDF remediation.
• Basicproficiencywith computers and software applications.
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.

Physical Demands

Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and the use of a hand truck to push or pull up to 150 pounds. Ability to bend, stoop, and reach to retrieve and reshelve Library materials. Be comfortable standing and walking for extended periods of time in all weather conditions. Able to remain alert and focused while operating a motor vehicle.

Anticipated hiring range: $20.00 - $22.00, commensurate with education and experience.
