Component / Prototype Fabrication Technician - Saginaw, MI



  • Fabricate complex parts with a variety of different materials and processes (metals, composites, magnetic parts).
  • Build parts and assemblies according to engineering drawings.
  • Interact with design engineers to create better parts and improve designs for prototype techniques.
  • Work independently with the initiative to solve problems quickly.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to devise solutions to new problems.
  • Create physical models and run trials with little background with a willingness to fail fast and iterate often.
  • Build and assemble prototypes that must meet stated requirements.
  • Maintain documentation for materials and fabrication manuals.
  • Document and keep track of parts, components and final assemblies.


Skills Required

Operate a wide range of fabrication tools including:



  • Presses, Ovens
  • Waterjets, 3D printers
  • Winders for electric motors, Magnetizers
  • High-precision manual and powered tools
  • Work from CAD models and technical drawings to produce high-tolerance parts.
  • Operate lab equipment for component verification including:
  • RLC tester
  • Scope, function generator
  • Insulation tester (HiPot, Megger, etc.)

  • Help develop custom fixtures, jigs, and one-off assemblies for rapid prototyping.
  • Assist in maintaining, upgrading, tuning machines and shop infrastructure.
  • Occasionally assist with integration or test setups when needed.
  • Act diligently to ensure quality and continuous improvement.



Experience Required



  • Three (3+) years of hands-on experience in a fabrication or prototyping shop environment.
  • Ability to interpret and mechanical drawings and GD&T.
  • Familiarity with common materials (aluminum, steel, copper, permanent magnets, plastics, epoxies, adhesives, etc.) and their mechanical characteristics.
  • Knowledge of shop tools and software
  • Familiarity with manual mill and lathe
  • Strong communication, multitasking, & inter-personal skills. demonstrated ability to work with others across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Computer skills (ms office, outlook, teams, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of cad tools is a plus.
  • Knowledge of electric machines (transformers, electric motors, sensors, bearings, etc.) is a plus


Education Required

High School Diploma

(Associate degree in a manufacturing technology field is a plus)
