Schedule: Monday-Friday, 1st shift

Position Summary

The Director of Sales - General Industrial is responsible for developing and executing strategic sales initiatives that drive sustainable account growth and market expansion. This role leads the identification and acquisition of new business opportunities while strengthening relationships with existing customers through value-driven engagement and service excellence. The Director of Sales provides strong leadership and direction to the Sales and Technical Service teams, fostering a high-performance culture through talent development, coaching, and continuous capability building. By aligning sales strategy with organizational objectives, this role ensures effective execution, customer satisfaction, and long-term revenue growth.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans to drive sustainable revenue growth, market expansion, and account penetration.
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities by leveraging market intelligence, customer insights, and competitive analysis.
  • Strengthen and expand existing customer relationships through value-based selling, consultative engagement, and service excellence.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Sales and Technical Service teams, ensuring alignment with company objectives and customer expectations.
  • Build a high-performance sales organization through coaching, talent development, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, R&D, and Customer Service to ensure effective execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor market trends, customer needs, and industry developments to inform sales strategy and innovation opportunities.
  • Establish and manage sales forecasts, budgets, and performance metrics to drive accountability and informed decision-making.
  • Represent the organization at key customer meetings, trade shows, and industry events to strengthen brand presence and market position.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and continuous development of sales and technical talent to ensure long-term capability growth.
  • Interview, hire, discipline, and terminate employees as required, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct semiannual employee performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from a fouryear college or university in sales/marketing or technical competency is strongly preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of five years of leadership experience in sales of highly technical products; experience within the paint or coatings industry is highly preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to lead by example and effectively guide teams toward operational goals. Prior supervision and hiring experience preferred but not required.

  • Ability to travel up to 75% of time.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly in a manufacturing or operational setting.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and move throughout the work area.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to handle, manipulate, and control objects, tools, or equipment.
  • Required to sit, balance, stoop, and occasionally reach above shoulder level.
  • Occasional operation of machinery using foot controls
  • May be required to climb, balance, and reach overhead as part of job duties.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 65 lbs.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Safety shoes, safety glasses, and flame-retardant uniforms or lab coats are required in production areas.
  • Respirators and ear plugs are required for specific production processes.
