Job Description

We have multiple openings for Senior Technical Coordinators specializing in electronics and/or mechanical fabrication. You will support the Supply Chain Organization. This work will take place within the National Ignition Facility & Photon Science (NIF&PS) Directorate, home to the world's most energetic laser.It is an exciting time to join the team that achievedfusion ignition in December 2022, a historic moment in science, opening up new physics regimes and setting the stage for new fusion energy possibilities.

You will apply knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials to work with NIF engineers and suppliers to purchase materials, mechanical and/or electrical parts (including PCBAs and cable harnesses), and electro- optical/mechanical assemblies varying in size and complexity. NIF is a 24/7 operational facility and may occasionally require travel, and/or working overtime to accomplish goals; some work will occur in radiological environments. These positions are in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division within the Engineering Directorate.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

In this role, you will

  • Provide advanced procurement/coordination support to scientific, engineering, and technical personnel through specialized technical knowledge relating to acquisition of parts, materials, and equipment for scientific research activities.
  • May participate or lead project team to provide acquisition support to senior technicians, technical associates, engineers, and scientists on medium to large projects.
  • Provide solutions to complex technical problems and make decisions using established guidelines, techniques, and procedures.
  • Research and recommend substitute products with similar technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, requestors, LLNL Procurement, production control, NIF warehouse, LLNL Receiving, and onsite mechanical/electrical fabrication shops to meet project cost and schedule requirements.
  • Provide detailed award/delivery status to supervisor and customers/requesters. while anticipating and reconciling supply issues, including technical factors affecting critical milestones.
  • Stage, transport, and deliver parts across the LLNL site to support secondary operations and/or staging of assembly/installation activities; deliver and pick-up parts from local suppliers.
  • Initiate purchasing requisitions to secure award of contracts, purchase items using LLNL-issued credit card, and identify and resolve issues for successful completion as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Associate degree in mechanical/electronic technology; or equivalent combination of education and previous relevant experience in mechanical/electronic fabrication.
  • Advanced level understanding and skills of ANSI International Electronic Standards or ASME Y14.5M Dimensioning and Tolerancing, with demonstrated ability to interpret and break down BOMs (Bill of Materials) for component level procurement.
  • Advanced knowledge of the fabrication acquisition process, including approvals, bidding, award, inspection and acceptance, receipt, reconciliation, and close out.
  • Effective written, verbal, feedback and presentation communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal, teamwork, and multitasking skills, with the ability to build and maintain productive working relationships, collaborate effectively across departments and manage multiple assignments simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to safely operate pick-up trucks, lift and carry up to 25 pounds, and properly secure loads for transport.
  • Ability to travel and maintain flexibility in scheduled work hours to attend training activities on and off-site.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience in electronic procurement or as an electronic technician, including intermediate skills in electronics shop processes.
  • Experience in mechanical fabrication procurement or as a machinist, sheet metal worker or equivalent mechanical fabrication shop experience.

Pay Range

$52.23 - $63.97 Hourly

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.
