Position Summary:

The Medical College of Wisconsin's Division of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant toprovide specialty medical care within Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital (FMFH) located in Menomonee Falls, WI, and within Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital (FMLH) located in Wauwatosa, WI. TheAdvanced Practice Provider(APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

Position Highlights:
  • Provides comprehensive vascular surgery care across FMFH and FMLH, including ambulatory clinic, hospital, and operating room environments.

  • Conducts outpatient clinic visits including new consultations, post-operative follow-ups, hospital follow-ups, wound evaluations, and chronic disease management.

  • Manages patients with carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysms, peripheral artery disease, venous disorders, dialysis access needs, and other vascular conditions.

  • Participates in inpatient consults, daily rounds, admissions, discharges, and perioperative management.

  • Assists in the operating room as appropriate based on experience and credentialing.

  • Performs procedures within scope and privileging (e.g., wound care, drain management, bedside procedures).

  • Orders and interprets diagnostic testing and imaging relevant to vascular care.

  • Collaborates closely with vascular surgeons, fellows, residents, APP colleagues, nursing staff, hospitalists, interventional radiology, cardiology, nephrology, and other subspecialties.

  • Functions within a medically directed surgical model with direct faculty oversight.

  • Participates in quality initiatives, clinical pathway development, and outcomes monitoring.

  • May participate in academic teaching of residents, medical students, and APP learners.

  • Reports to: APP Manager, Division of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery

Schedule:
  • Full-time (1.0 FTE)
    Salaried (Exempt)

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (flexible; may vary based on service needs)

  • Weekly schedule includes a combination of:

    • Ambulatory clinic sessions

    • Inpatient service coverage

    • Operating room support as needed

  • Weekend/Holiday Requirements: Approximately one weekend per month (call coverage only); no holiday requirement

  • Scheduling flexibility required to support coverage across Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital (FMFH) and Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital (FMLH)

  • Opportunity to pick up additional shifts as mutually agreed upon

Department/Division Highlights:

The Division of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin is an academic surgical program providing comprehensive open and endovascular care across Froedtert Health sites, including Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital and Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital.

The division manages the full spectrum of arterial and venous disease, including carotid disease, aortic aneurysms, peripheral artery disease, venous disorders, and dialysis access. Care is delivered through a coordinated model that integrates ambulatory clinic evaluation, inpatient management, and operative intervention.

As part of a large academic medical center, the division is committed to clinical outcomes, quality improvement, multidisciplinary collaboration, and education of residents, fellows, medical students, and APP learners.

Qualifications:

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience in vascular surgery or a surgical subspecialty preferred, including ambulatory clinic management, inpatient consultative care, perioperative management, and operating room support.

  • Open to experienced APPs; new graduates may be considered with relevant clinical training.

Minimum Education:

  • Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.

  • Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Advanced Practice Nurse/ Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner

    • Wisconsin RN License

    • Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License

    • Certification Requirements

      • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

      • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

    • DEA registration

    • Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization

      • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGACNP)

      • Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPCNP)

      • Family NP (FNP)

  • Physician Assistant

    • Wisconsin Physician Assistant License

    • Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

    • Certification Requirements:

      • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

      • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

      • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) required within 6 months of start date
