Overview

Under direction, the Survey Technician will perform a variety of survey tasks to support the survey crew's daily operations. This position will assist the Survey Crew Chief in ensuring accurate and precise field measurements, procedures, and note taking are adhered to. The position also requires fostering a positive team atmosphere, supporting staff development, and ensuring clear communication with the Project Surveyor regarding project status and issues. The Survey Technician / Land Surveyor-in-Training oversees the field personnel and ensures successful project execution throughout its lifecycle. This is a non-exempt role, paid on an hourly basis.

Responsibilities

    Conduct plane and geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, boundary, and control projects.
  • Provides technical support while working independently under the direction of the Crew Chief, Survey or Professional Land Surveyor
  • Works closely with survey crew chief and office staff to ensure complete and accurate survey data
    collection, note keeping, field sketches
  • Utilizes survey equipment to map existing features of the survey including but not limited to locations,
    shapes, elevations, and dimensions of land or features upon the land
  • Performs field survey activities compliant with standards set by the company, state, and AEC/Surveying
    industry
  • Operates and has knowledge of survey equipment functions, capabilities, and limitations
  • Maintains/ upkeeps survey equipment and coordinates scheduling of calibrations and routine
    maintenance (if assigned this duty)
  • Maintains, orders, and organizes survey supplies (if assigned this duty)
  • Maintains, upkeeps, and organizes office location survey shop/storage
  • Ensures unassigned survey trucks are kept clean, organized, stocked, and receive routine maintenance at
    the proper intervals (if assigned this duty)
  • Participates in a team environment to achieve team/company goals
  • Comply with all policies, practices, and procedures to ensure safe working conditions and environment
  • Encouraged to obtain FAA part 107 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) pilot's license and collect data with UAV when needed

Working Conditions

  • General: Office (60%) and Field (40%) Environments
  • Using a computer at a desk for up to 8+ hours daily when in the office and up to 10+ hours when in the field
  • Ability to lift, carry, and use office and field equipment and supplies, some weighing up to 50+ pounds
  • Ability to work outdoors including extreme temperatures and weather
  • Ability to work in urban and rural sites and roadways containing flat or uneven terrain
  • Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, twist, squat, climb, and reach while surveying and operating surveying equipment
  • Ability to cut and clear brush or trees as needed to complete field survey duties
  • Potential exposure to harmful plants, insects, wildlife, and busy traffic
  • Willing to travel/stay overnight for project locations over 2 hours from home office (or at PM discretion)
  • Ability to work overtime in the office or field as needed for project deadlines
  • Ability to work overtime as needed


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 0+ years of field experience
  • Valid state-issued driver's license with a clean driving record meeting company insurance requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures
  • Work in urban and rural environments, including roadways and uneven terrain
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, and reach for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, carry, and operate survey equipment and supplies weighing up to 50+ pounds
  • Ability to clear brush and vegetation as needed to complete survey tasks
  • Potential exposure to insects, wildlife, traffic, and environmental hazards
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed
  • Willingness to travel and stay overnight for project locations more than two hours from the home office
