DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Cook 1, you will perform food service duties in an institutional setting, providing meals for trainees, staff, and guests. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing a variety of menu items such as soups, stews, casseroles, and desserts while managing the transfer of ingredients from storage freezers and refrigerators to the preparation and cooking areas. Additionally, you will facilitate meal service by operating service lines or providing individual table service. This work includes maintaining adequate supplies of plates and trays and personally serving special guests or dignitaries. Ensuring a sanitary environment is a core requirement; you will be responsible for cleaning the kitchen, dining areas, and storage rooms, as well as operating and maintaining all specialized food service equipment. This role is vital to daily operations of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, requiring physical stamina and a commitment to high standards of cleanliness and service. Interested in learning more? - Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours: Rotating shifts, including weekends. Start time and end time will vary.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $38,396.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Desirable Preparation for Work:
- Experience in cooking or quantity food preparation; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
Additional Requirements:
- You must possess a minimum of 1 year experience preparing and serving food.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualification (not required):
- Experience in a commercial kitchen
Legal Requirements:
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
- You must pass criminal history and background investigations if you do not have a current Pennsylvania State Police background on file.
