The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is seeking to hire a full-time seasonal Park Maintenance Worker to perform semi-skilled construction and maintenance duties at Frances Slocum State Park. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
-
In this role, you will perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, construction, and groundskeeping duties to support the daily operations of Frances Slocum State Park. You will work independently or assist skilled trades staff, maintain park facilities and equipment, ensure safe and clean public spaces, and provide helpful service to park visitors. Your work helps keep the park safe, functional, and welcoming for all who visit.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing semi-skilled maintenance and construction tasks independently or alongside skilled trades workers
- Checking and maintaining the pool complex, restrooms, garbage areas, and related facilities; cleaning the pool complex at closing for next-day use
- Making repairs to buildings and facilities using carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, and other trade tools
- Operating, maintaining, and cleaning park vehicles and equipment
- Constructing simple forms for concrete work; mixing, placing, and finishing concrete; laying stone and block walls
- Performing grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, cutting weeds, cutting firewood, picking up litter, cleaning grills, sweeping paved areas, digging ditches, and clearing drains and culverts
- Preparing sites, seeding, planting, and maintaining turf, trees, and shrubs
- Painting and staining park buildings, signs, gates, and other structures
- Completing general housekeeping tasks, including cleaning and supplying restrooms, offices, and other buildings; performing minor repairs such as replacing bulbs or tightening fixtures
- Ensuring the safe and proper use of all equipment, power tools, and hand tools; following all safety rules and wearing required protective equipment
- Attending mandatory safety meetings and trainings
- Assisting park visitors and providing information in a friendly and helpful manner
- Completing required forms and records, including daily logs, mileage sheets, fuel records, and leave slips
- Operating a two-way radio in accordance with established procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment approximately March 2027.
- Work schedules vary. This position requires a 37.5-hour workweek, consisting of five days, and includes weekends and holidays.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
