Summary

Senior Manager, Operational Risk Management (ORM) Governance and Practices leads oversight of operational and reputational risk frameworks, policies, and reporting. This role manages risk appetite, RCSA, risk events, controls, and executive risk reporting to support sound decision-making. Partners across the business as part of the second line of defense to strengthen risk culture and ensure effective, compliant risk management practices. Requires 10+ years' ORM experience.

Overall Purpose

The Senior Manager, Operational Risk Management (ORM) Governance and Practices is responsible for stewardship, planning and coordination of core elements of the ORM, including but not limited to the risk appetite and risk profile reporting, policy and standards maintenance, process management, and risk and control self-assessment.

ORM provides independent oversight of the operational risks arising from business activities and corporate functions in support of our vision of a strong risk management culture and that we are proactively identifying and managing risks that may impact our ability to achieve our strategic objectives as a company. We are part of the company's second line of defense, and work with our business partners to develop sound risk management programs and processes that are integrated into our business model and that enable business success.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain the operational and reputation risk frameworks, including policies, standards, procedures (collectively "PSPs") training and quality assurance requirements to assess adherence.

  • Support the development and maintenance of ORM programs and associated policies, standards, and procedures including process management, risk and control self-assessment, risk event management, control management, and scenario analysis.

  • Maintain the operational and reputation risk appetite statements and supporting quantitative metrics.

  • Oversee collection and reporting of key metrics to measure and monitor operational and reputation risk exposures.

  • Coordinates periodic executive level reporting regarding operational risk management, including quarterly risk profile reports, to support decision-making and escalation regarding risks that may not be consistent with the business risk tolerance.

  • Support departmental business management activities such as audit and regulatory exam engagement, project management, ERM and Risk Strategy engagement.

  • Contribute to a high-performance team as problem-solvers who take initiative, are reliable and accountable, and consistently deliver quality work while also being adaptable and committed to continuous improvement for themselves and their team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education and/or experience typically obtained through completion of a bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • Minimum of 10+ years of operational risk management experience, preferably in financial services or other highly regulated industries

  • Experience in operational risk programs (i.e., RCSA, Risk Events, Issue Management, Key Indicators) and risk domains (e.g., product and service delivery, process management, business disruption, third-party, fraud, and data)

  • Exceptional communication skills with ability to synthesize and present complex risk issues clearly and persuasively

  • Proven strategic thinker and creative problem solver who also demonstrates strong attention to detail and efficiency

  • Ability to drive change in a dynamic business environment

  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills

  • Highly organized, detail oriented combined with excellent analytical and technical skills

  • Background and drug screen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior financial institution experience

  • Prior experience in risk or risk program governance

  • Risk management, internal control, or internal audit certification(s)

  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Working conditions consist of a normal office environment. Work is primarily sedentary and requires extensive use of a computer and involves sitting for periods of approximately four hours. Work may require occasional standing, walking, kneeling and reaching.

  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently.

  • Requires visual acuity and dexterity to view, prepare, and manipulate documents and office equipment including personal computers.

  • Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers.

  • Employee must be able to perform essential functions and physical requirements of position with or without reasonable accommodation.

The base pay scale for this position in:
Phoenix, AZ/ Chicago, IL / Washington, DC in USD per year is: $129,000 - $161,000.
New York, NY/ San Francisco, CA in USD per year is: $154,000 - $193,000.

Additionally, candidates are eligible for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits.
