About the Role

The Associate Data Analyst supports the editorial and publishing needs of over 3000 journals in the Springer Nature Journals group by acquiring and analysing data, and extracting key insights to report to stakeholders at all levels. Reporting will monitor our performance against KPIs and ensure we use data driven decisions to provide a best-in-class service for our authors, editors and reviewers.

This role will provide invaluable insight to parts of the process where we are operating well (or under-performing) so we know where to focus our efforts. They have a particular focus on goals that pertain to researcher service and operational efficiency but may need to focus on specific strategic projects that fall outside of this as required.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, define and document automated reports/dashboards to help address reporting challenges and meet the information needs of stakeholders with minimal guidance.

  • Extract, clean data on SN journals from eJP, Editorial Manager and SNAPP and audit data quality.

  • Create graphs and visualisations to ensure effective communication of necessary data.

  • Assist in uncovering insights to stakeholders to describe the data and identify trends when producing reports.

  • With guidance work with other departments (Publishing, Finance, Market Intelligence, etc.) to support alignment of data and company initiatives where required.

  • Innovates and delivers solutions at a project level.

  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services

  • Work proactively with stakeholders, partners and other analysts to own and execute data analytics projects that blend technical and customer needs.

  • May lead projects as a developmental opportunity

Core experience, skills and qualifications

  • University degree with a strong analytical/quantitative background or equivalent experience(e.g. Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Physics, Computer Science etc.)

  • Good knowledge and experience with Excel for data analysis

  • SQL knowledge preferred

  • Familiarity with analytics data products (e.g. Google suite: Looker Studio, Looker, BigQuery)

  • A passion for working with large datasets

  • Excellent analytical problem solving capabilities

  • Well organised and accurate with good time management

  • Good data representation and report writing skills, and a keen eye for detail.

Desirable experience, skills and qualifications

  • Other technical languages (Python, R or solution specific language)

  • Statistics, or coding experience is beneficial

  • Publishing industry experience is preferred

US Annualized Base Salary Range: $90,000 - $105,000.
