Senior Controls Engineer - High Power Motor Drives & Power Conversion (BSEE Required)

Location: Hanover, MD (Onsite/Hybrid)

Pay: $85-$97/hour

Work Authorization: U.S. Citizenship required

About the Role

We are seeking a highly specialized Senior Controls Engineer / Power Conversion Expert with a BSEE (required) and deep expertise in high-power, high-efficiency motor controls and drives. This role focuses on power conversion and control systems for advanced electro-mechanical platforms, including underwater robotic systems (ROVs/AUVs).

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an engineer who can design, model, and deliver high-performance motor drive and power systems in demanding environments.

Key Responsibilities



  • Lead design of high-power motor control systems, drives, and power conversion architectures
  • Develop high-efficiency power electronics for electro-mechanical and robotic systems
  • Design and optimize motor drives, inverters, and power control systems for underwater/harsh environments
  • Perform modeling, simulation, and validation of power electronics and control systems
  • Architect system-level solutions for power distribution, conversion, and control
  • Troubleshoot and test high-power systems in lab and real-world conditions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, embedded, and systems engineering teams
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering staff
  • Drive improvements in efficiency, reliability, and performance



Required Qualifications (Must-Have)



  • BSEE (Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering) - REQUIRED
  • 10+ years of experience in high-power motor controls and power conversion systems
  • Proven expertise in motor drives, inverters, and high-efficiency power electronics
  • Strong background in power control for electro-mechanical systems
  • Experience designing for high-power, high-reliability applications
  • Ability to lead system-level design and execution



Highly Preferred (Target Profile)



  • Experience with underwater robotics, ROVs, AUVs, or subsea systems
  • Expertise in power electronics for harsh or submerged environments
  • Advanced motor control techniques (FOC, SVPWM, sensorless control)
  • Experience with IGBTs, MOSFETs, SiC devices, and inverter topologies
  • Embedded systems experience (DSPs, microcontrollers, C/C++)
  • Tools: MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE, Altium, or similar
  • Knowledge of high-voltage systems and power distribution
