The Acquisitions & Discovery (A&D) department supports the teaching and research program of the University by providing searchable metadata for the more than 3.5 million volumes and 110,000 print and electronic journal subscriptions purchased by the NC State University Libraries, thus preserving and making accessible the intellectual content of the library's collections. The Serials unit is one of three units within the Acquisitions & Discovery department. The main focus of Serials within the department is to serve as a highly skilled task force to acquire, receive, describe and deliver serials materials in all formats to facilitate use of, and access to, the library's collections. The Serials unit creates and maintains bibliographic, financial (purchase order, invoice, Pcard receipts), technical, and online data in the library's integrated library system ( ILS), university financial system, electronic resource management system, and related knowledge bases and vendor systems.

Essential Job Duties
The University Library Technician performs acquisitions and cataloging functions for the Acquisitions & Discovery department. Acquisitions duties include ordering, receiving, invoicing, and supporting functions necessary for successful budget allocation for all subscriptions and one-time orders. Cataloging duties include performing copy and complex copy cataloging for resources in all formats and languages. The incumbent participates in electronic resource activation, access verification, and troubleshooting to ensure the integrity of access points provided to discovery systems. The incumbent participates in short- and long-term projects undertaken by the department. The incumbent participates and leads projects to clean and prepare data streams for further analysis and tool building to ensure data quality and workflow efficiency. The incumbent conducts complex electronic resource package management work for the Libraries including title list reconciliation processes, vendor and agent communication, knowledge base work, electronic resource management ( ERM) data entry, and integrated library system ( ILS) work.

Qualifications




Minimum Experience/Education

High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Library cataloging experience, knowledge of library cataloging standards, and the ability to interpret and apply complex rules for description and access for library resources as well as acquisitions and cataloging policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new tools, techniques, and skills in order to locate, analyze, and interpret data in complex online systems
  • Ability to foster an environment of belonging and well-being
  • Ability to work creatively and collaboratively in a team environment and establish and maintain good working relationships across the library, the university, and with vendors and other stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities, with strong attention to detail and the capacity to prioritize, problem-solve, and exercise sound judgment in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
