Hybrid opportunity in Miami Lakes, FL.

SUMMARY: The Staff Accountant's duties include compiling financial information, preparing or processing journal entries, reconciling accounts and providing financial data to business partners and management are also required functions. A strong foundational knowledge of basic accounting concepts is required. An understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, applicable regulations and BankUnited accounting policies and procedures is also required. This position is primarily focused on Accounts Payable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned.



  • Records, classifies, and summarizes financial transactions in accordance with Company policy and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Keeps up-to-date on policies, procedures, and regulations that apply to the assigned job function.
  • Ensures completeness and accuracy of work performed and compliance with the Company's established accounting and control policies and procedures.
  • Initiates and processes journal entries as appropriate for the assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Reconciles sub-ledgers to the general ledger and resolves differences. Assists other departments with reconciliation differences.
  • Explains accounting transactions and resolves accounting issues and discrepancies.
  • Develops proficiency with accounting software applications used by the Company.
  • Performs month-end variance analysis for assigned income and expense accounts.
  • Prepares monthly and ad-hoc financial reports and statements for management as requested.
  • Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.).
  • Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training.
  • Identifies and reports suspicious activity.


EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree in accounting (preferred) or a related degree with a concentration of course work in accounting required.

EXPERIENCE



  • 4 - 6 years progressive bank accounting experience and demonstrated knowledge of general and bank accounting concepts may be substituted for the degree requirement at the judgment of management required.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES



  • Must be proficient with Excel and Word.
