Wofford College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor to teach first- through fourth-year Chinese language, literature, and culture courses in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. The position carriesan initialone-year term for the 20262027 academic year, with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performanceand departmental needs.At Wofford, faculty serve as teacher-scholars dedicated to the education and mentorship of undergraduates in a liberal arts tradition. We seek candidates who have a passion for teaching undergraduates. EXPECTATIONS The teaching load will be3-0-4. In the fall of 2026, theperson selectedwill teach two Chinese language courses andone Chinese culturecoursetaught in Englishand will play a significant role in Chinese event programming. In the spring 2027semester, the visiting assistant professor of Chinese will teachfour Chinese language courses. The Chinese culture or literature courses will bedeterminedin consultation with the hired candidate.This candidate will notbe requiredto teach during the colleges interim, which runs the entiremonth of January. This candidate will be workingcollaboratively in the growing Chinese program within the MLLC department and throughout the campus, including extracurricular multicultural events. QUALIFICATIONS The preferred candidate will have aPh.D. in Chinese by the time of the appointment in August 2026.However,ABD candidates will also beconsidered.Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in Chinese and English.Those with college teaching experience in the U.S. are preferred.Please note that Wofford Collegeis not able tosponsor work visas.
